Is he that tosser off Limp Biscuit? LOL

for those in the US tosser - Wiktionary

Yeah that sucks, but... ...did you never have one of those "lucid" moments on stage? It's the same attitude as towards Gene Simmons. All I can say is: sell as many records as Limp Bizkit, then come back and comment...

PS: I saw LB live and they totally pwnd

What does fred durst have to do with Gene? I have run monitors for fred durst several times and found him to be an extreme dick head. Wasn't this post about Gene playing a musicman?

Read the posts. Somebody said something about solos, so I threw in a solo of Fred Durst.

Was having a look on the internet as wanted to show a friend a picture of a guitar I own.

It is a 1998 Musicman Stingray, nothing special in that you say but it used to belong to Gene Simmons. He used it on Psycho Circus, he then sold it the big Kiss Auction that was held a few years back. I bought it!

Really great guitar, the album wasn't so good but I thought Gene's sound was very good on it.

I think he's a great musician, but I'm not as impressed of him as a bass player.
He has made some fantastic music and really knows how to do what the fans expect. I like Kiss' music and a lot of other people do too. But I have never seen him play without a pick, I haven't seen him play something that is even close to impressive (playing neither fast, nor accurate or anything else) and according to my bass teacher, Kiss has been so far from playing tight in studio that they had problems recording a song ...

But I guess I have to accept him as a bass player, after all, he uses a Music Man! :D

O.k., who here has had the musical career success that Gene Simmons has had? (record deals, concerts, merchandising, T.V. show).............................

Didn't think so.

Oh, and Paul McCartney used a pick, no?

Just sayin'.

Dude...seriously, fine..you don't like him. Don't respect him. whatever. He is a marketing genius and a multi millionaire and you and your teacher have nothing on him in those aspects. how about show some respect for someone who is in a band that ALL of us wish we were in. Jeezus...the hate for him is simpy appalling. I am not a big fan of hisl...but...I have respect for him. If he came up to either one of you to do a show you BOTH would jump on it like a fat kid in a twinkie shop. Let's be real here. I find that pathetic. whatever...care less.

Uh, no.

Not me. Sorry.

Gene is really, really good at making money. Yep, that's about the sum total of it.

The guy will do anything -- ANYTHING -- for a buck and more exposure. That's what it's all about. The music is just the means to the end.

Ever seen the KISS sci-fi movie?

Can he play bass? Sure. So can lots of other guys. Even a dweeb like me can play bass. Is he a great bass player? Well, let's just say I think he's a really great self-promoter.

Gene Simmons is much better known for being Gene Simmons than he is for being a musician. He's in that group of celebrities who are famous for being famous. The kind of people who get reality shows because of who they are, not what they've done.

Frankly, I find KISS worship puzzling. Never was a fan, never was particularly impressed.

I don't disrespect the guy. He's successful. But he's not a freakin' deity.

Interesting. I respect your opinion to a point.

My whole point of the post was the complete bashing of the guy. Case in point...IF (not saying I am here...just an example) was to bash you for saying "I would not play in KISS" by saying things based on opinion and not fact...it is indeed bashing.

Never said he was some deity.

I said he has success that most people would love to have. How could anyone not dream of being that successful? That is what puzzles me.

Yes, the movie was so stupid it is funny. I actually have it. ;)

More famous by being a celebrity? Well...they were not known until they went out there to make their mark. Got famous after being unknown. They had to play their instruments to get known and to do their albums. SO....you lost me there.

Anywho....it's all good.

At the end of the day he is doing what 99% of us would love to do for a living. He is not the best in the world but not the worst player either, I must admit I am a fan of Kiss and their maketing genius is way above any other band and don't forget it is the music business.

my 2 cents

Guess I'm a 1 percenter. I really, really wouldn't want to do what he does for a living.

I'm very happy I have a day job. I'm very happy I don't live under the microscope of celebrity scrutiny. I'm very happy I don't live the stereotypical rock and roll lifestyle. I'm very happy I'm not subject to the whims of pop culture.

I'm one of those people who likes making music because it's fun and personally satisfying. I'm not in it for fame. Or girls. Or money. Gene has said in public that this point of view is BS. Sorry, but it's true.

Music is my escape from work. I don't want it to BE my work.

Yes, we do exist.

Sure, lots of people want that stuff. More power to 'em.

My $0.02

(I still want roadies, though.)

Adouglas I have to agree with you with some of your points I don't want to live under the microscope of celebrity scrutiny and the subject to the whims of pop culture but I would love to have a career in music where my financial future is taken care of and if you ask most guys guys why they got into music and bands they will say to meet girls!!!

I guess you are the rare breed of people so I dip my hat to you.

It's really time to close this thread. Gene Simmons is a musician, a marketer, a madman and a male chauvenist. SO WHAT!?! I thoroughly enjoyed the YouTube of 'Goin' Blind' and I thought he played wonderfully. Somebody tell me what was wrong with it.

The first band I knew anything about was Three Dog Night (Golden Biscuits 8-track). The second was Kiss Alive II and Double Platinum. My friend was Paul Stanley and I was always Gene. Ya'll stay off my air guitar god and dis' something else awhile.
