So whats wrong with the Axis for metal anyway? Too round? LP's are roundish. No one complains about those. Sound too good? What gives?

This thread is hilarious. Have we established that there is no such thing as a metal guitar right?

Metal has been played on any and all guitars. And saying that just putting EMGs in a guitar and it's instantly metal or that Metal is confined to a type of guitar is also pretty silly,

Iron Maiden and their strats. Opeth and their PRSs. Dream Theater with the JP6. Metallica and ESP. List is endless.

I reall apppreciate you time and thought..I just dont repackage someones stuff....if there is a major metal player that comes along and thinks we can collaborate to create the tool he needs then we are there....

One key factor is understanding the limited hooks on the walls of guitar center and the other retail outlets...there are people who do metal really well and have support and loyalty from he dealers I would have ha hard time getting a hook for a jackson re package.

I think what he said here is really the key. From what I can gather by everything that BP has said, he is not interested in producing a metal guitar that is derivitave of pre-existing designs for the sake of having a metal guitar. He is saying that if a metal artist comes to EBMM and says, "Hey, can we design a signature guitar together?" He would design a guitar that suits that player's needs. This would provide a major endorsement for the guitar that would be helpful in getting the guitar that space on the hooks.

I remember when the EBMM/EVH first came out. From a "traditional" view of what a hard-rock guitar should look like, it was a complete departure. I didn't know what to think of it. Was it supposed to be e Tele, or a Les Paul? It sort of had the characteristics of a little bit of everything, and at the same time, it was completely original. I remember thinking that it looked to me more like a guitar a country music musician would play. Binding on the body? A figured maple top? A small, round headstock? It was as far away from anything Eddie, or any other artist was playing at the time as you could get. Look at that guitar now. That guitar, the Axis, or other variations of that design are now cemented into our collective consciousness as one of the most sought after guitars in rock music for tone and playability. Nobody saw that design coming, and, with all due respect to Dudley and BP, as good as that design was, it needed a major endorsement to be accepted as much as it was initially.

Anyway, in the process of designing a superior instrument for an artist, and with the effective use of endorsments, EBMM has already once, redefined what a particular genre's guitar should look like. Had EBMM approached the whole project from the mindset of, "We need to make a Van Halen guitar", it probably would have been a Luke with one passive humbucker and a Floyd Rose trem, with a maple fretboard. (Actually, that kind of sounds cool) We would have been deprived of an original design. Seems like BP is not willing to compromise on these design principles. I, for one, can respect that.

I just think the Axis has no problem as a metal lead guitar or even rhythm. Then again I like mostly 80's metal and hard rock. It's a rockin machine and brilliant for high gain solos.

This thread is strangely lurking into the world of disrespect and provocation by now....I don't like that.

It all came from the simple fantasies of some forumites, which is brilliant. After all, we're nearing Christmas and everbody may have a wish :D

But who are we to get demanding (like EBMM should make this and create that). BP has made very clear how things get to be born to reality. Period.

Now everybody seems to get lost in "what is metal and what's not" (it's the same to discuss if white cars are cool or not) and other ridiculous questions to discuss, and the bashing sets off at one end or the other. I'm sure that wasn't intended by those who started this thread....yet, I don't like it

Actually this thread made me go digging in my record collection and dusting off some older metal records I haven't listened to in ages...spent a fun weekend with Eddie, Vic Rattlehead and the like...
