If you really like the LE color I'd go for it, for a few reasons.

1) They aren't making any more of them. It's far, far more unusual and interesting than black.

2) The $50 is so trivial that in a year both you and your wife will have forgotten all about it. So is the few months one way or another regarding savings.

3) Getting it now is worth something all by itself. What's your time worth to you?

BUT only if your wife agrees. Do not under any circumstances do it and then tell her after the fact.

Run it by her, explain the choice. Make her part of the decision process. Lay out all the pros and cons and ask her what she thinks.

A lot of spouses will say to go for it, because it will make you happy. From her point of view she'll be doing something really nice for her sweetie and it really won't cost her anything.

+1

Have an honest conversation with her and get her opinion on what you should do... Ask her the question, make it a team decision. Ask her which SHE likes better.

Hmmm hmmm hmmm. Interesting. My gut tells me don't even go there with her right now. The original deal with my wife was that I can SAVE for a bass not get one right away. Every bone in my body tells me that she will not be impressed.
Also I don't even know if it this limited edition Bongo is still there...I should confirm that first.

By the way, do the limited edition Music Man products ever increase in value?

Over original cost? I don't think so. Maybe someday, but not at the moment.

They will probably be worth a little bit more than the equivalent plain stock instrument. They will certainly be more desirable.

I just bought an Envy Green LE and I happily paid a small premium for it... but it cost me nowhere near what it went for when new.

Thanks Mr. Douglas. I was just thinking of throwing that argument in the mix. Anyhow, I still don't even know if its still there so first things first.

Happy Boxing Day folks!

If you like the LE better, and it is still available, I suggest you ask your wife which one SHE likes better. And if it's the LE, then have it put on layway for you, so you can save up according to the deal.

It's only about the colour, isn't it?

(and, yes, I'd prefer the LE over the black)

Not only am I a happily married forum member but I am married to another happily married forum member. Staying happily married should always be a prime objective. If either decision doesn't cause any problems, GREAT! If you feel that it's best to stay with the original plan then by all means do so. Personally, I'd go with your special order, after all it's a SPECIAL order; you designed it. You picked the model, pickup configuration, color, pickguard, fretboard choice, and amount of strings.
I just decided what bass I'm playing at tonight's gig, my custom ordered one! ;)

POWMAN: From this wife's side of things, which one do YOU want? Take the time issue out of it. You are talking about $50 here. Whenever my husband has purchased a "it's not the one I really want, but it's cool and I can have it now" basses, he ends up thinking about the one he really wanted even more. If you are only talking 10%, GET THE ONE YOU WANT!!! But always, discuss this dilema with your wife, emphasizing the fact that you value her opinion and do not want to upset her in any way. Let her know you need her help as this is a decision you should make together. You will be surprised how much more she will appreciate the new bass. Also make sure she understands which bass you prefer. (Do you know which bass you prefer?)

Here's my rule of thumb, when you are thinking of spending that kind of money anyway, go for the bass that speaks to you.

BIG HINT: Be prepared to take her advice!! After all, you'll end up with an EBMM either way. It's a win-win.

Why are women so much more articulate? Even in type...

She raises a good point too... Make sure you've made up your mind and don't be afraid to have an opinion... Just be ready to change it if she disagrees :p

Excellent advice folks, especially nice to have the input of Mrs. S.

It is not like I am choosing to forgo, say, the second humbucker to save a few dollars. It is just the cosmetics. Initially I did not want to pay a premium for colour, but now that the price is essentially the same, that changes things.

The common thread is again, talk to Mrs. Powman. But first I will see if the bass is still available. If it is, we will chat.

Ok, brought up the topic of the Bongo tonight...it went over like a lead balloon. Clearly we need to stick with the original plan of waiting.

Not a problem...I want a Bongo, not for pretty gold hardware, but for the incredible tone it has. I will be more than happy with a Sapphire Black 4HH.

Cheers folks!

I'm thinking of changing my username to MISTER Mrs.sitonmybass! ;)

Actually, I think I'm quite articulate, thank you very much! :D

Thanks, Manfloozy. Mrs. S. will love the compliment!
