I wear mine as high as the strap will allow.

1) It's the most comfortable way.

2) It looks the coolest (non of this 'lower is cooler' 13 year old's attitude)

3) You wont wreck the back of your bass with your belt.

I usually don't wear a belt for this reason since the "neck bolt plate" of any bass I use is right at the top of my pants (waist-line.) If I do wear a belt, I "thread" the belt so that the buckle is off to the side which still looks okay because my shirts are not tucked in.

Tummy cut on all my basses supports my enormous belly. Just recently started doing that. I used to wear it high but really wasn't that crazy about it, so I dropped it a bit.

I really can't play palm muted triplets or do false harmonics unless my bass is pretty low, but then I am not so great at at playing fingerstyle when it is so low.
One bandmate used to insist I wear my bass low so I didnt try to sneak in any of that "poppy snappy crap".

PS.My weight fluctuates 10 pounds either side of 220. But I work some marathon jobs like 32 hours in 2 days with 3 hours of sleep.
PPS.no disrespect to the height challenged. I'm sure you can always switch to a baritone if it gets tough playing so low on the neck.

This is getting wonderfully wierd. I will check it fiirst next time.

About the strap. Low is cool. High is better for actually playiing. By high I mean when you sit and the bass sits on your leg. If you were to do that live you would be dorkie though. Well - the jazz heads would not care I guess...

medium low because it forces me to move my right hand thumb to the string under the one im playing more than when its up high. otherwise im too tempted to keep my thumb on the e whilst playing the g and so forth

Ergonomics are a big interest of mine. I have varied the strap length over time and have found that shorter works better, at least for me.

Ordinarily, if the upper strap horn is right over my left man-breast :D, I can play most comfortably, sitting or standing. This works very well for my Stringray 4's and 5's.

For my Bongo, I typically hike up the strap one more fitting.

Right around Oli Height... Sometimes higher, sometimes lower. I don't really know why though. I guess for whatever feels comfortable that day???

do you wear your bass? Since getting a bongo I like the bass lower on the strap. I'm going to have to use 2 straps if I switch to my stingray. Does anyone else have to do this?

I play 'em all at the same height, but I like having a seperate strap for each bass...makes for a quick change at gigs.

So how do you like the Bongo in comparison to your Rays??

I dug mine for a while, then had 2 for a couple of weeks, but went back to having a couple of Rays. I still play my Bongo, but am back to the Ray HHs that I have.

Because of its narrower body, my Sterling 5 single H "wears" a little lower than my other basses. I have multiple straps, one that is specifically adjusted and used for the Sterling.
