Binding burns

anybody ever experience this problem? The reason that I'm not using an ASS model because the binding will leave a real burn mark on my forearm where I rest for picking. this is why the Petrucci scoop is a godsend for me, especially for fast picking.
The weird thing is on some guitars with a lot of binding, I don't have this issue, like on my Les Paul. but I also had this problem with a Tele I had years ago.

I have to admit...that is the first time I have ever heard of "binding burn". Never happened to me.

The Axis, ASS and Steve Morse models are not contoured at ALL, therefore some people might find that uncomfortable to play and dig into your forearm. I personally dont find the flat tops that comfortable either...thats why we have choices and I play my Silo Special, 20th Silo and soon LUKE hehehe. Cheers!

By the way it has nothing to do with the binding burning you hehe.

"Binding Burn"??? New guitar jargon.....love it.
Not really the binding, more the straight edge there.....have had pain in that area occasionally when playing an acoustic, probably in the wrong position......never noticed it with the Tele or the ASS.
As the wise men say, if it's a problem there are plenty of contoured top guitars around

If I found myself in your situation, I would wear long sleeves, or wrap my picking arm with an ace bandage. I would not let anything stand between me and my Axis.

If your used to a contoured relief for the forearm than an Axis might take a bit to get used to. I’ve never had a problem with them but thats all I’ve played in the last 5 years.

I have this problem with my Hamer Standard (Explorer shape) so I never play without a wristband of some form. Actually, the Axis Sport doesn't have binding, but sometimes it digs into my forearm as well, just in a different spot so i have to move that wristband around.

My current favorites wristband is my Dream Theater logo one in black. Though with St. Patty's Day coming up, I'm wearing the green Flogging Molly's band.

Binding burn is a serious issue. Meditate on the arm that experiences it.
Check with your doctor if the burn lasts for 4 hours or longer.

The other thing I recommend is to play in the classical position resting the guitar on your left leg. This will change the angle of the guitar so that this issue is minimized.

You can always swap your Axis for a Reflex

I used to have that problem with a Les Paul Custom. Thick body + no contours = sore forearm.

Lightning fast Seriously, I've experience this only on couple guitars. I have a gibson ES-175 and a Les Paul, but no issues. But years ago, had to sell a Tele because of this problem.
I love the Axis and the ASS, hope I could find one that'll work for me. I seriously considered having my tech mod a forearm scoop like the JP onto an ASS That'll totally destroy the value of the guitar though.
Anyway, good to hear that some of you had similar problems, that it's not just me

You'd think it would help, but not really. The edge of the body on a LP Custom is a killer. 200 BPM thrashing on that edge is a killer.

Makes my 25th feel an absolute dream in comparison...not to mention the JP's.

I have a problem with any guitar without an arm contour. I wouldn't call it 'binding burn', but my forearm does get sore with my acoustic, my LP Custom, my SUB and any time I've tried an Axis - which is why I tend to stick with the Lukes and JPs for any long term playing.

I have more of an issue on PRS guitars than on my ASS. With the shape of the edge on PRSi (presumably to facilitate the faux binding), it's pretty sharp despite the carved top.

Since I've pretty much gotten used to it, playing flat-topped guitars like my Tele or ASS is no big deal.
