I use the term "Modern Metal" because I feel Nu-Metal has a negative connotation. Bands like Sevendust and Incubus were lumped in with Korn and Limp Bizkit, and I think they deserve a little more respect. Anywho, are there fans of "Modern Metal" bands such as Sevendust, Nonpoint, and Alter Bridge on this forum? I ask because I want to know how many people in the guitar community focus on great melodies as much as flawless technique. My band resembles this style, and I'm trying to work out the best ways to spread the word online.

I used to think I knew what metal was ... now I'm just plain confused.

Reminds me of that grandpa Simpson quote ...

"I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary ..."

I like all that stuff. Limp Bizkit is a guilty pleasure for me. We play a coupl e Bizkit songs and people go nuts. People claim to hate them but know all the words. I never label stuff "nu" or " modern" ..it either rocks or it doesn't.

I'm diggin Flyleaf they have some really good stuff and lyrics are always clean. I'm not into the music i can't play in my office without it offending someone due to the language.

Man, I love everything. If it grooves and it's played with balls and conviction, i love it. Just feel very fortunate to be able to work as a musician, and every day I feel lucky to come across great new music.
As far as new metal, fear Factory, Arch Enemy, Seraphim, Bullet For My Valentine, Down From Up, so many cool things each of these bands have to offer.

I cover the genre of "metal" fairly well. Sorry, but none of those bands in my humble opinion classify as metal. Not a bad thing as they are great bands. i put them in the hard rock category. Dimmu Borgir, Gorgoroth, Woe of Tyrannts are metal to me. Include Arch Enemy and the like. I play that type of music and that is what metal is to me. Again, my opinion and only my opinion. I like and play extreme music...so...hair bands are not metal. That is pop/rock to me. Again, not a bad thing. I mean, Aerosmith is not remotely metal and they were classified that years ago by some idiots who wanted to sell magazines and MTV. I am into metal and they are just not it. Still, great bands....just not my definition of "metal" and I am not the be all end all either. Just my 2 pennies.
