Wow there are soo many good.

Dream Theater
Opeth
In Flames
Bullet For My Valentine
Killswitch Engage

are at the top. But there are also others like

Breaking Benjamin
Dream Evil
Porcubine Tree
In This Moment
etc.

I love Alter Bridge, I've been listening to them a lot recently. I don't really listen to other bands in this particular style much though.

My favorite new band lately is Mutiny Within. melodic, heavy, progressive. Kinda like if DT wrote 3:30 songs instead of 15 minute songs.

Yes. Mutiny Within are killer!

I've also been listening to the new As I Lay Dying and Black Dahlia Murder records. And I've been loving the new A7X single.

And I've been loving the new A7X single.
I should check that out.

My thoughts:
They are really channeling (Re)Load-era Metallica for the verses (which can be a good thing), and dip into self-plagiarism on the chorus (which is a trademark of their sound, so you can't fault them for that).

Like all of their songs, it is either a hit or miss with no middle-ground.

My main issue with Mutiny Within is it gets stale pretty fast. I listen to about half the songs on that album while others don't get enough play time. They're all pretty similar.

They are freakin' awesome though. They pull it all off live, too, according to youtube footage I've seen.

I love Mike but for the sake of their careers and future, they should find a new permanent drummer.

The single is very A7X, can't really say anything else. Far from my favorite song from them, but not bad.

Supposedly, they might change their name or something when they move on after finding a permanent drummer. Take that with a grain of salt, though.

No idea if anyone mentioned them yet, but I got the debut-album The Age of Silence from Welsh metalheads Anterior last week. Awesome, AWESOME band. Very nice riffs and tasty solo's. My favorite at the mo is this one, kick-ass solo halfway through: [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZfdbxpOdHo"]YouTube- Anterior - Dead Divine[/nomedia]
