On Easter Monday I travelled three or four miles to a village pub where I watched a band play - it was the Hamish Stewart Band, and they played to a packed village pub which Hamish runs.
To say they were awesome is an understatement and they played through some classic stuff like What Cha Gonna Do For Me, Person to Person etc etc. Absolutely unbelieveable - to me this is like seeing Eric Clapton playing in the local pub for fun.
Anyway back on topic - after they finished I spoke to Hamish briefly and he confirmed that Alan Gorrie had a green sunburst Ray circa 1979 with AWB. Unfortunely Hamish no longer has his Musicman basses and mostly plays guitar now.
Has anyone ever seen a green sunburst Ray or is the consensus that this was a one off.
As a postscript to this, I have a DVD of AWB playing in 1977 at Montreux (much is available on You Tube) and Alan Gorrie uses a natural Ray with a white PU cover (I guess a prototype), and Hamish uses a sunburst Ray ususally played with a pick - the bass sound on the DVD is really superb and captures the feel and nature of the Classic StingRay.
