On Easter Monday I travelled three or four miles to a village pub where I watched a band play - it was the Hamish Stewart Band, and they played to a packed village pub which Hamish runs.

To say they were awesome is an understatement and they played through some classic stuff like What Cha Gonna Do For Me, Person to Person etc etc. Absolutely unbelieveable - to me this is like seeing Eric Clapton playing in the local pub for fun.

Anyway back on topic - after they finished I spoke to Hamish briefly and he confirmed that Alan Gorrie had a green sunburst Ray circa 1979 with AWB. Unfortunely Hamish no longer has his Musicman basses and mostly plays guitar now.

Has anyone ever seen a green sunburst Ray or is the consensus that this was a one off.

As a postscript to this, I have a DVD of AWB playing in 1977 at Montreux (much is available on You Tube) and Alan Gorrie uses a natural Ray with a white PU cover (I guess a prototype), and Hamish uses a sunburst Ray ususally played with a pick - the bass sound on the DVD is really superb and captures the feel and nature of the Classic StingRay.

Green guitars and basses don't sell.

That isn't bad though. :)

Dargie-Heinz-Burst with carbon neck ... must be a rare beast indeed!

I like it, although I'm not sure if I would buy one. *tries to imagine this finish on a Bongo*

I saw Paul McCartney at Tampa Stadium in 1990. Hamish Stuart who was alternating between guitar and bass duties played a Sunburst SR5 if memory serves me well.

I remember that greenburst bass but not the details. It's not a pre-EB, though, as it has a contoured body and a six bolt neck attachment.

Gavin might have a better memory for it. I've had those same photos for YEARS.

Was this a refinish job? I seem to remember something like that and the Status neck being added at that time.

Noted this is an EBMM. It looks like blueburst but with green instead to me - very nice colour.

The Alan Gorrie one was circa 1979 - the colour was as 3 tone sunburst but think green instead of red. He used it when I saw them live back then.

Interesting he played an SR5 - he played with McCartney for some years - I like his bass playing but he seems to be primarily a guitarist - he doesn't alternate in his current band and Steve Pearce plays bass (an awesome player also!).
