I've been wondering for a while how the word "piezo" is correctly pronounced. I have heard it in two ways:
(Pee-ay-zo) and
(Pie-zo) <- "pie" as in the little cakes thingys that taste nice :D

Incase you've been wondering, I say (Pee-ay-zo) but I have heard it being said the other way too.

So how is it actually pronounced, or are there just two ways of saying it? If so, comment and say which way you pronounce it.

Thanks!

This is the problem with the English language. The pronounciations of many words make NO sense the way they are actually written. To me, piezo sounds like an Italian word, therefore I pronounce it that way (pee-ay-zo). This is also funny, how it has to be spelled out for English speaking people to understand the pronounciation. Just an observation not meant to disrespect anybody or the language :D. I certainly do like MY pee-ay-zo on the Silo Special :).

No my friend. It's Greek. Trust me, I know. :D

If you want to be true to the original word, you must pronounce it pee-ay-zo.

It is from the Greek word "piesis" (pee-ay-sis) which means "pressure". ;)

This makes a lot of sense. I only pronounced it "pee-ay-zo" since it sounded Italian, but now that you say it is Greek and the meaning makes sense so I guess we finally know how it is pronounced :D

The correct pronouncation is "pee-et-so".
Just like in mezzo-piano, mezzo-forte the z is pronounced "ts". So if it's was pronouced "pee-ay-so" the word would spell piesso like pianissimo and fortissimo.

+1

Some people happy in ignorance when it comes to foreign words though. It's part of the condition known as xenophobia :D
