Not dark at all, very warm and clear tone, even when unplugged (to me anyway) and not as bright of course as a maple neck/board with basswood or ash. Overall, it just sounds great no matter what type of music you play with it. Here's my guitar rig(s):
Line 6 Flextone II HD Head going into a custom made slanted 4 x 12 cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30's, Crate Stealth 50 Lee Jackson (all tube!) combo with 1 x 12 Celestion Vintage 30.

Slav,
Nice rig. I like Line6's studio gear like the toneport/pod stuff. Owned a number of Crate amps many years ago, too. I really like the punchy clarity of the Axis maple neck/top guitars, probably cause my hearing isn't as good anymore (too much Marshall roar over the years). I think I'm probably done with rosewood necks and mahogany bodies(w/o maple caps) as last couple guitars I had in this setup were just to warm and dark to me. Just maple and ebony boards from now on. Does MM make any guitars with ebony fretboards?----NO, don't answer that, don't give me more GAS...rate I'm going my living room will look like yours by next year (referring to your album pix). Nice collection, BTW.

Thanks, I rarely get bored with my amps. I can pretty much get any sound I want with them. I always thought about getting a Diezel VH4 but, I don't play out anymore and spending that kind of money on a head doesn't make sense to me. In reference to my guitar space, that's actually not my living room, it's the first floor in my house. With all of my gear (I use to actually have more in my old house - 18 guitars and one other amp - before I sold all of my other brand guitars and one amp to get my awesome Balls) I have to have a dedicated office/guitar room on the first floor. If my living room looked like that, I would be divorced and have to move in with my parents in TX.

:DROTFL, that's funny! I can see how you ended up with all the Balls, my other guitars are rapidly collecting dust and that's unusual-even for Arizona (why do ya think we have such great sunsets.....It's all the damn dust in the air!)

I don't play out anymore either, so when I needed a new amp, I elected to get a combo amp. Still went with something nice, an Engl Raider 100. Sounds great and is still loud enough to do serious ear damage (like any amp should).

Bought my first MM in 1992 and never looked back. Still have some other brands that I like, but the MM's fill a need that no other brands touch. It's funny that so many people mention PRS. When I bought my first ball, it was between a green EVH and a green PRS. The EVH was much cheaper and I liked the simplicity of the guitar better. Plus, I much preferred the EVH pickups. PRS is a great guitar, but I'm glad I went with MM.
