Not dark at all, very warm and clear tone, even when unplugged (to me anyway) and not as bright of course as a maple neck/board with basswood or ash. Overall, it just sounds great no matter what type of music you play with it. Here's my guitar rig(s):
Line 6 Flextone II HD Head going into a custom made slanted 4 x 12 cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30's, Crate Stealth 50 Lee Jackson (all tube!) combo with 1 x 12 Celestion Vintage 30.

Slav,
Nice rig. I like Line6's studio gear like the toneport/pod stuff. Owned a number of Crate amps many years ago, too. I really like the punchy clarity of the Axis maple neck/top guitars, probably cause my hearing isn't as good anymore (too much Marshall roar over the years). I think I'm probably done with rosewood necks and mahogany bodies(w/o maple caps) as last couple guitars I had in this setup were just to warm and dark to me. Just maple and ebony boards from now on. Does MM make any guitars with ebony fretboards?----NO, don't answer that, don't give me more GAS...rate I'm going my living room will look like yours by next year (referring to your album pix). Nice collection, BTW.
