I think you're right about that.

My guess is it's a combo of advertising dollars at work along with portraying a certain image. From my own experience playing live, I'm sticking to one 2x12 cab no matter which head I use. Especially since I'm my own roadie!

Wasn't there that thing a while back about Jeff Beck using a Pro Junior or Blues Junior mic'ed up, sitting on top of an Marshall 4x12 that was there if he wanted it but never actually used it?

I know it's common knowledge that Jeff Beck uses a 50 watt head.

On the Jools Holland TV programme recently he was going through two fender BJ's which are awesome amps.

I saw ZZ Top tonight at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

I'm gonna play a hunch and say those cabs ain't wired up. ;)

AMAZING show by the way. Rev. Gibbon's and Co. and the coolest mammajammas this side of the Mississippi.

I read that Weezer did a tour a number of years back with no amps, just guitar into POD's and straight into the PA. Strange to see a stage with no amps at all!?

Messuggah does this pretty frequently.

I think Metallica did the "no-amp" look for their Cunning Stunts dvd, though they were all in iso boxes below the stage.

I saw a Motley Crue show a number of years ago that was like that. There was no amps on the stage at all. I think it was right after Vince rejoined the band in the late 90's.
