I remember when the EVH first came out. There was alot of buzz about the guitar initially, mainly because the design was such a departure from what people were used to seeing him play. Right off the bat, the Ed-heads were buying them up, and at the time, the band's popularity was at it's peak.

The down side though, was I knew alot of players at the time that avoided purchasing the guitar, even if they liked it, because it was so identifiable with EVH. It was almost like they felt if they played one on stage, everybody would expect them to play Eruption.

When the EVH became the Axis, within 2 years, alot of the players I knew that wouldn't buy and EVH owned an Axis. It was almost like they felt like it was okay to own one now that EVHs name wasn't on it.

I think that is the problem with Sig guitars. You can pretty much count on getting the Fan-Boys of the artist, but beyond that, it's hit-and-miss. It would stand to reason that the more popular the artist is, the better the sales will be after the fans have bought their guitars, but in my experience, it seems like it can work against you just as much when the customers don't neccessarily want to be associated with the artists style.

You're right...my apologies to the OP....however I'm baffled at the sig guitar fascination. I personally don't care if there is someone's name on it....I care if it's inspires me...allows me to reach the sonic bliss I hear in my head.

Hey brasco, Take this: I think MM should have Slash model.

Blues obviously didn't have the need for a sig model either
that's why he plays more than one EBMM

there has been so much written on a blues
model in the past. There must be something wrong with your browser or something

I think the EBMM models are pretty much perfect out of the box and need no fixing
I'm
just grateful that there is a team at EBMM working diligently to create models to suit most peoples needs
I also heard in the pipeline that EBMM are prototyping ALL the time way more than most
so whatever you thought of they have thunk AND built and a whole lot more
if they come up with anything that they think will be attractive to the general customer base plus is super cool they will most likely release it

So stop thinking and enjoy your balls!

Bp has explained the odd and volatile nature of the signature model before. Yes the JP is a great seller, but not all sigs are. Ala Al or SM.

Just like any guitar company has done, and will continue to do so, the company will always revolve around their flagship models.

Silhouette, Reflex, Axis.

As often as BP has stated, signature models will only come when the need is genuine. When the artists needs a tool that is non-existent on the market today. As for Blues Saraceno, and even Joe Bonamassa, they don't need the sigs, they play the EBMM's they need to make music.

Heck, even John Fogherty plays a JP. EBMM offers a LOT.

I think BP fingers are sore going over this topic over and over. I think EBMM did a great job picking the artist they used to create their signature guitars. Outside of Vanhalen who transcends the guitar community and is known by people who do not even play an instrument, the way people who are not into boxing know who Ali or Tyson are and would tune in when they fought they have used players players for their artist series guitars.

I think the last time this was brought up last month Sterling stated that 08 and 09 were bad years for the company but he did not lay anyone off at the factory, though it really called for it. Also this year he stated is doing much better, and also guitars like the AL and I believe Luke finally showed a spike in sales. I personally contribute that to the AL coming out in the HH configuration which made me look at the guitar in a whole new way, as well as many other players. Also factor in that the company has a solid reputation for building quality instruments.

The way I see it the Luke, Morse and AL to a 15 to 23 year old is the way we looked at a Les Paul, and the guitars sell on there own merit and not who played them. Also unlike Gibson or Fender who release a signature guitar by just tweaking a Les Paul, Strat or Tele EBMM builds totally original guitars when they do an artist series. I really think that there will be no more new signature guitars coming out of factory, and anything new will have a name made up for it like the Reflex.
