Maybe it's a language thing. But I was helping him since I know more of the inside...he was a little off. I actually think that rob appreciated it.

Yes. I appreciated it. I don't think that BP is censoring me. He's just bringing me closer to the truth.

Romania ...that's a country ...in Europe :))
allow me to introduce again my subjective opinion :p
for sure no one is irreplaceable, but for sure Mike is not someone you could replace, that's an axiom :D
yes, DT will find other person to "do the job" but come on Mike is the godfather of modern drummers, alt least in the last 25 years.

try to replace James, but that can't be Metallica anymore

back to DT, with all the respect for all members and I love their contribution and playing, but DT will not be DT without Portnoy and Petrucci (and Labrie too, because not being instrumental music, is hard to identify it being DT without his unique voice)

In last years i personally admire a lot Mike Mangini, Virgil Donati, Morgenstain.
I would love to see Mangini with DT, I saw him live with Steve Vai in 2000 and was the first time I thought "holly sh... there is another drummer in this world" - hahah

can't say that I was ever a huge Megadeath fan, but the change of lineups is kind of annoying... Dave is a killer player though!...

Well said my friend. The thing that really drew me to dream theater is that each player is a virtuoso of sorts and the songs are meant to be a display of talent and pushing the limits of what can be done. I think DT can really carry on as long as they stay true to that.

Rob is a good dude....

Thanks, BP! Anyway, I look forward to DT's next effort and to JP's solo album. Hope he has some time to get into a studio and record that sucker before he hits the studio with DT in January. It'll all be interesting.

I keep seeing people saying that JP is gonna be writing all the music and lyrics. I sincerely hope they don't go in this direction.

JP's writing has a certain sound, as does Portnoy, and that's all we've been hearing for the last few albums. All my favorite lyrics are written by LaBrie, Myung, and Moore (can't win em all, right?), and honestly, JP's lyrics have been lacking hard as of late (sorry dude!) I think the biggest reason is because they have a rule of some sort, saying that lyrics must already have a melody, be phrased for it, etc...I honestly think that's a crap way to write a song. It immediately gets rid of the group effort. It might be more difficult, but just look back to their albums before this rule was put in place--I think most of us will agree that it sounded more lively and organic.
Portnoy's influence over the entire band was HUGE, and what I'm hoping to hear out of all this is a more even distribution of influence.

I sure hope they don't get some no-name guy. MP's shoes are much too big to be filled by an unheard of guy. It would hurt the band imo. A band full of famous musicians should probably get another famous musician if they want to help their cause. Just my opinion.

I've gotta agree with some of the above posts, it would be nice if the music was given to James for him to work with as I'm sure he does with his solo efforts with Marco Sfogli. He does write great lyrics and some of his work on the BCASL 'cover' CD is superb........be good to hear himself rather than how MP / JP instructing him - I don't think he ever does himself full justice like this.......

...then again, they may have tried that and it didn't work...I can't see that though.

Yeah actually the departure of Portnoy makes me really exciting. Because I think that now, DT's music will be different, and (I hope) better than ever. I love all the previous albums, and DT is my favorite band of all times, JP my hero etc... but now the mixture between the musician will be very different. I can't wait to hear how different the next album will sound like !!
