I seem to remember a posting by either Big Poppa or Dudley that the Gamechanger would have a reset feature, i.e. falling back to some preset factory settings if things got out of hand. A hard wired five way switch, if you want.

I'm really exited about all the R&D the EBMM crew has been doing and I will (at last) order my first Music Man bass after this Winter NAMM - new colours or not ...

:)

My understanding is that the Variax basses and guitars are models of particular instruments. From what I can gather about the EBMM "Gamechanger", is that it has no limitations on the pickup settings and how they are wired. It sounds like two different concepts.

Did they already make an official statement on what this should be? And where?

They have released snippets on other forums. Their onboard doodad is twofold - it has the ability to switch between a large number of pickup tones (ie. want your Les Paul to sound like a Strat or an acoustic guitar, etc), plus it has some type of USB connection that connects to the iTunes store and for uploading and downloading songs to share with other users.

Gasp! So that means there's no chance of one finding it's way into my 25th HH? <sad>

+1

...and into my incoming reflex 5 HH? :(

On the bright side, we know there is always a bright side :), our current instruments will instantly become the 'classic technology' and in 20 years will be sought by classic collectors all around the world -- yeah, I like dreaming ;)

It seems that today's Gibson launch was basically onboard effects that can be tweaked from a computer via bluetooth. Oh, and the guitar fitted with that stuff is priced at $5800 !

Definitely seems that the Gamechanger will have more appeal than that!

so does the concept go beyond just pickups? that is, the ability to re-purpose even the knobs and switches. say someone doesn't want a knob for tone but would like it use it as separate volume for a coil or set of coils or dedicate that tone to a single coil set or even a coil set pan (tho this last one requires a certain type of pot, unless you guys are really doing magic back there)

also, i remember the iphone was mentioned as a possible platform for a mobile application. what about android?

i have never understood the concept of, "lets add ALL the effects that are CRUCIAL to the sum total of this song having ANY vibe whatsoever, way , way, way, AFTER we have recorded the song and everyone has gone home".hmmmmm... " hey .... i know... how bout we add them right HERE and NOW, so i dont have to hate you, and myself, when i hear it all screwed up on the radio 6 months from now!!" "deal???" i also dont understand ANY PART of not having an actual amp onstage, using in ear monitors instead of wedges, or turning down so low, that there is NO VIBE to the music whatsoever so the "live sound engineer" can have "complete control" over the mix...hhhmmm.... how about, "NO!!! " you are a "live sound" engineer... i dont want you having ANY control over our mix. if you actually knew what the he!! you were doing, you would be a "studio engineer", not to mention, you are really just the bands first drummer that we couldnt bring ourselves to TOTALLY fire. giving you total control of the mix, would be like taking my tax forms to the County Fair every year so the "Carnies" could work out my Schedule C and Deductions...... NO THANKS!!! by the way.... "Hows the bass sound out there???"
