I heard people talking about one of the turquoise pearl Rays in a mailer from GC but I somehow never saw that one. I found it because someone here posted a link to one like it and at the bottom of the page it had a button that said "See all others like this". I started comparing all of them and was quickly lost!

atlanta... so boombox got you a good deal then? :)

MrM

ps: im jealous! that color, roasted neck (maple all the way through) and hh pickups... smokin!!

that's me and my bass... and I simply love it. This the bass I've owned the longest and I've owned rickenbackers, a bunch of vintage gibsons, fender P's...

Nothing beats the playability of that stingray neck.

But I'd love to buy a white ray one day.
3band EQ and probably a maple neck as well.

I just loooooooooooove white rays...

This is part of the fun for me, trying to snag up that special one that has some different mojo. The colors are cool believe me, but I get more excited when I find one with a different voicing subtlety.

Couldn't agree more! And I thought that was what this thread is about -- the real existing one you liked (best), not some phantasy or instrument you've never owned.

I found that the 1981 I posted above really catches what I've always been looking for in a StingRay... in every aspect, especially sonically. That she sports one of the best burst jobs I've ever seen is just a very nice bonus on an absolutely amazing playing and sounding instrument.

But that does not mean she's is the proper choice for any job: The 30th is much fatter sounding and my white HH has so much low end rumble and deep growl, I can't imagine to part with it either. And on the fretless 'Rays the differences are even more pronounced... each time I pick one of them up, I think "well, this is the nicest one, I should let go of the others", and then I pick one of the others and think the same thing...

Welcome, NURZE, you have a great looking Ray there. I had to sell the last of once two white Rays a couple of weeks ago. I do understand...;)

A great, resonant sound

did i mention she sounds HUGE? :D

I once wanted to sell her but luckily I changed my mind, had new frets and nut installed and now she plays just great:)

on the other hand..an EB SR4H with 3eq and maple neck would be nearly unbeatable as well:cool:

I really, really love that bass. The pickguard sets the color off perfectly.

But it's hard to imagine loving an instrument more than I love my Cherryburst SR5 HH. The only thing I'd consider changing would be the neck to a roasted one but they're finished and I really love the waxed/oiled finish on the neck I have.

I'd also like to try one of the rosewood necked ones. Something about those really turns me on.

My 30th is the ultimate SR for me. I wish I had some decent pics to post, but I've been waiting for my roasted Big Al 4H to arrive before taking some new ones. Hopefully before the end of the month....
