I can't say enough great things about the tc electronic flashback delay! Install the Steve Morse tone print and you'll be in delay heaven. This thing is just crazy good.....
What ??? Nobody's using Electro Harmonix ?
For me the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai is the best compromise between sound, versatility and price. With this pedal, you have :
For me it's really important to be able to store several presets. With my band, we have some song where the delay has to be perfectly programmed (songs with samples for instance).
- Several delays (echo, reverse, delay + modulation ...)
- Tap Tempo
- A looper (30 s)
- 8 presets
- cheap (167 € in Europe)
- Made in NYC
What kind do you want? Digital Delay? Tape Delay? Analog Delay?
Well true tape delay will be totally impractical to get a hand of, and expensive. But there are a lot of models out there for tape delay.
For digital delay, I like simplicity. If you need just ONE setting for delay, the BOSS DD-3 can't get you wrong. The Nova Delay has more options, ESPECIALLY if you need tap tempo. TC Electronics makes outstanding modulation and delay effects, you can't go wrong in that department. There's the wonderful Nova Delay and also the new stombox artists series that Morse and JP are into (cant remember the name) Or you can be like Joe B and use a TC 2290 in the rack. Which is a bit ludicrous, but if you got the $$$ why not.
When I had my bigger set up before I moved overseas, I used a digital delay (DD-3) for my distorted tones, and used an Analog delay for my clean tones. There's the MXR Carbon Copy which is a solid workhorse analog delay at a cheap price. The AD9 which is decent for slapback but has limited delay range. You can find an old Memory Man (not the reissue garbage) and if you're really willing to drop the cash you can get a Toneczar Echoczar. The most beautiful analog delay I've ever heard, bar none.
Being more specific about your needs and your budget will help.![]()
Hi Big Paul,
I agree with Gio, the Boss DD3 is essential. I also play 80's rock, exactly the same bands that you mentioned, and I played it back then with a DD3. I lent it out years ago, and never got it back. I just bought a new one on Friday and I made the right choice for that genre of music. No need to get the DD7.
It was a tough choice between the DD3 and the MXR carbon copy for me, too. I'm happy with the DD3.
Good luck...
Hey Big Paul,
If you're just getting warmed up again after a 15 year hiatus, I highly recommend licklibrary.com dvds. The ones that teach you five songs from a particular band. Jamie Humphries is the best instructor, and he plays Axis guitars. His Van Halen Volume 2 is essential.
Note to Jamie....please make Van Halen volume 3 with some stuff from the Hagar years. Poundcake, Spanked, Man on a Mission...
If you order one, you better be ready to wait a month for it to arrive. I'm serious. But you should check out the website. Good luck, Paul...
good idea and im going to order on friday. what about van halen vol 1? thanks man.
