I caught Elmer playing in Toronto last night. This guy has got to be seen live, huge energy with total musicality, even when he's shredding.
I really love the fact that his set has many different styles, jazz fusion, blues, funk...You're not bored with the same **** over and over. really versatile player and musician, he can sit in different bags with total conviction.
It was Silo until he broke a string, then he pulled out an Axis, EBMM all night.
Thanks to Scooby Steve for letting me know about the gig, wish you could've been there, dude! the Youtube stuff just never did this guy justice. One of his solos was so intense that i was literally listenning to it so hard, after it was over, I realized I didn't even know what's going on around me.:D
Here's one clip I found on Youtube that's fairly recent, for you guys not familiar with him:

DUDE! I wish I could have been there! Man!

I've been digging Elmer's music for so long, I haven't had a chance to catch him live. What you tell me just confirms what everyone else says, his music LIVE is a totally different experience. Totally emotive playing. Thanks for the report man, and I glad you digged the show!

I watched a bunch of his Youtube stuff, none of them really did him justice. He's really going for it but still has really good lines, you never feel like the guy is wanking. when they play jazz fusion, he sounded very Scott Henderson at times. On funky blues, he had SRV agression and attack. On a slow r&b groove, he pulled out some santana/Lukather vibe. The guy is very versatile and has a great feel for all the music he plays. that's the one thing that really impressed me.

Was it a 3 piece set?

4-piece band. It was kinda weird, he had 2 bass players, one guy looked like a friend who came by to sit in. then later in the set he had a keyboard player sat in. The band was great, they actually gave Elmer the support that made him sound better, where they build and supported soloist.
