Hi everyone at EBMM world, just got my True Gold Luke this evening and absolutely love it.
I never played a musicman guitar before and I have to say the quality is second to none.
plays like a dream out of the case (still in tune too!). Setup was flawless.
However there is a small hairline crack where the neck meets the body (top horn) and I am hoping its nothing to worry about.
I know its probably me being all panicky (new guitar syndrome) but I am really annoyed and would like a second opinion
Tried posting this earlier but must have done something wrong, anyway here is a pic of the crack

Will post more pics soon showing the Luke in all her glory.

Thanks for your help

Looks like a small stress crack in the paint. It's really nothing to worry about, but if it bothers you should contact your dealer and/or drop EBMM customer service a line.

Hmmm seems this would have been caught before shipping, Did you allow time for temperature adjust before opening the case after receiving via shipping? Dont know the difference in air temp between Ireland and SOCAL.

contact your national dealer or customer services and they will sort it. i had a crack in my dargie 2 silo special and they sorted it . but it may take a few weeks and you may have to ship the guitar to your dealer.

Looks like a stress crack in the paint to me. I had one in a JP but I never did anything about it. It never got worse. Contact customer service if you are concerned though.

Get in touch with Strings n Things in the UK and they will be able to sort it out.
I should say contact your dealer first - that's what I did and everything was resolved very quickly.

Welcome to EB guitars!!

Hi guys, thanks so much for all your input, this is such a great forum and so helpful
I played the Luke at a gig on wednesday night and was blown away, wow!
I sent customer services an email yesterday morn (thurs) and also sent an email to strings and things but still waiting for a reply.
I know it's prob a very trivial thing but I am very annoyed nonetheless.
Don't want to play anymore on it in case it needs to be returned to the dealer.
Thanks again everyone.

Davy.

Hey Davy welcome and congrats. I had a hairline crack on a Jp once. It's totally up to u how to handle it. Eb is totally helpful with resolving stuff given the investment u put in and the detail to quality they put in. Some guys here don't mind them, others it kills em to no end. Totally your call....

Enj it. Those true golds look amazing...

Ok, small update for you,
I am just finished calling the dealer I purchased the guitar from, and they are going to contact strings and things on monday on my behalf.
They reckon though, because its a limited instrument, that it cant be replaced with another True Gold but would gladly replace it for another guitar of the same value.
I am feeling a bit gutted at the mo, might just have to grin and bear it, or end up losing the True Gold,
Anyway, here are a few pics as promised.
Have a great weekend everybody

Davy.

It's a beautiful instrument. Don't let one stress crack in the finish make you return it. On the bright side: It's not like it doesn't play like buttah right? :)

Hi, me again,

Just off the phone to Nick at "Strings and things" and what a helpful guy he is.
He offered to get MM to do me new body and replace mine.
I also kept him on the phone for a while with a few queries and he was quite happy to listen to my ramblings on.
I told him about a few small things that were bugging me as a new EBMM owner and he wants me to send the guitar to him so he can check it over, problem is that the things bugging me are so trivial and minuscule that I am slightly embarrassed to send it, plus I cant drag myself away from the thing long enough to package it up.
Now, I am the kind of guy who gets worked up over the slightest thing (as I am sure you have gathered) and I decided to see what you all think.
The guitar plays fantastic (apart from buzzing open low E string, which does not go away unless the saddle is raised ridiculously high) and the tuning is unbelievable, so gonna post a few pics of my cosmetic probs and see what everyone thinks.
I never owned a high quality guitar before, so maybe I am trying to find faults
Oh, dont be afraid to tell me like it is, I have a feeling the majority of you will anyway , haha.

No.1
Specks of something (dust, etc) UNDERNEATH the finish on headstock, nothing serious but still subconsciously try to rub it off, if I do it one more time I will go mad....:)

No 2.
Beautiful neck on the Lukes, seamless fretboard joint up until the 15th fret, then small gaps with glue???? The picture doesnt do it justice but you get the idea....

oh if you look closely you can see the stress crack as well where the neck meets the body..
Go on let me have it, would you be happy?

It's hard when you get something new. You want it to be perfect. Totally understand how you feel.

I don't speak for EBMM. I'd hope the dust in the clear coat is something that they would fix. The glue on the fretboard edge is probably acceptable though...

I don't know what kind of tolerances they have at the factory, but almost all of the EBMM i've seen in stores are always perfect in every way. Hope your guitar comes back as nice as you want it to be!

For me, when I buy a guitar, I look in order of priority at :
  • the sound
  • the playability
  • the aspect

The aspect is important but keep in mind that if the guitar is good, you will play it a lot ... thus the pristine aspect will be a fond memory ...
It's rare to find a perfect guitar in term of sound and playability. Thus, if you find it, don't let it go just for some cosmetic details.
Of course, that's my point of view (a guitar is a tool for making music). Some people are collectors, thus for them the aspect is top priority.
