I think the lack of a forearm cut is the one downfall of the AXIS. It really does get in the way and cause some pain while sitting down. Perhaps this can be addressed in the future. I can see me getting rid of mine ONLY for that reason (I, too, only play sitting down at home).

IMO, the forearm contour really matters more on the player. Some folks get on with 'slab body' guitars no problem, where as with others it's a non-starter. I think it really depends upon how the player positions his/her wrist when playing.

Basically if it doesn't work for you, you likely would have to modify your playing style... or find a guitar with a contour.

I've been trying different arm positions but with no luck :( I think my small size body has something to do with the discomfort I'm experiencing. I'm only 5' 5" and with my small wingspan forces my forearm to directly rest on the side-top of the body. It really sucks because I really love the Axis neck.

I wouldn't necessarily classify the lack of a cut as a downfall.
It really depends on what you're accustomed to play.
Forearm cut, no forearm cut....all just a matter of getting used to.

I spent some time with an OLP Silhouette after years of using a gibson melody maker. Melody maker is a single-slabbed, non-contoured body. Couldn't stand that forearm cut on the silo because of it.
The more time I spend with the silo, the more I liked the cut.
But I can always go back to the melody maker & find a comfortable friend.
Enjoy both! :)

I personally love the Axis and the Axis Super Sport....I can play them for hours with no dis-comfort....However, I play an Al today with an all rosewood neck...for the first time and it was unbelievably comfortable for me......Good luck....I also like the Reflex feel...and multiple tonal varieties.....!!

Thanks...I'm heading back to GC tonight to return the Axis and get the AL HH. I haven't played one but I know it will be comfortable and the sound will be similar since it the same PUPs, and if I like its neck profile then it's a plus! I still think the Axis neck is the best!!!

Not trying to be a smartass, but have you tried playing standing up?

I have the same arm carve issue with my Super Sport. My other EBMMs have a carve, which I prefer, but I like the Super Sport and don't want to get rid of it because of that. So I started playing it with a strap standing up and I hang it a little lower than my other guitars. At that angle, the edge of the guitar does not dig into my forearm. Just a thought.

Thanks! I actually use to play standing up when I first got my electric guitar, but now I only play in my bedroom sitting down and mostly using my headphone (I use Line 6 HD Prod). Oh well, I think I will still give the Axis a shot someday and maybe I'll just play it for no more than a hour per session :)

The AL HH is a great option. The most comfortable guitar ever (for me that is)! Both standing up and sitting down.

Man, I hope so. Last night at GC, I sadly returned the Axis SS and ordered the AL HH (vintage black whit white perloid pick guard). I don't want to be too excited just in case it doesnt' work out for me, either.

ehh T-SHIZ, I knew you would start testing the AL waters. You have enough nice Axis'. Gotta get yourself a nice Lee. Personally, I LOVE the MM90's on the Albert Lee. It's a perfect match for your playing style and they feel incredible, look even cooler.

Hi folks,
- The Neck - I have a small hands and the neck on the Axis guitars are so comfortable to play with! The sad part, whatever guitar I play in the future, I would always think of that neck. I may eventually like some other neck profile, but I don't think I would love it the way I love the Axis neck!

You nailed it here. All other necks pale in comparison to the Axis neck. I'd say the same thing about the pickups as well.
