Well, after listening to clips and clips and such, I bought this from Bass Central on Monday. It arrived today. Definitely awesome. I love the feel, sound, and Color. The 3 way switch is definitely awesome. Series vs parallel is a totally different tonal profile. I love it. Still not exactly sure what the "filter" in the middle position does. Seems a bit more mellow sounding.

Anyway, here are the pics:

I already have put EB Dual Locks on it, and started messing with the action and such. Gotta lower it just a little bit more to get it where I like it. flawless bass. great finish. Great sound.

Compared to the SR5 HS with ceramics, it's a different animal entirely. Even in series mode the Alnico Pickup is not as aggressive as the Ceramic. It's close though. I do think however I need to change the strings on the HS. Previous Owner put GHS strings on it, and they just sound dead with the bass unplugged, and the B string is especially flat sounding.

Has anyone tried putting taper core strings on a stingray 5?

Nice bass, congrats. The white plastic looks great, ( not sure about the racing stripe, lol ) Have you tried Cobalts yet ?

Haven't tried cobalts, but just the strings that are on my new SR5 feel and sound a lot more "live" to my ears when unplugged. On my carvin 5, I use tapered strings, and find that the tonal quality is actually pretty similar between the E and B string when playing the same notes. Not sure if the spacing on the MM bridge is big enough to use some tapered strings though.

Nice bass!! Congrats. I love the Single H models and the SR5H Alnico has a great sound. I also would highly recommend the Cobalts. They'll give you more thump on the bottom end and a beautiful "ping" sound on top.

That is cool. So this alnico SR5 sound suits you better than ceramics? How is the overall feeling in comparison? Especially between B strings.

Congrats!

Nice color!

I bet that EB Regular Slinkys will do the job just fine, ...EB Coated I'd recommend too, ...unfortunately still didn't tried EB Cobalts!

Well, I think that the series vs parallel wiring makes more of a difference in the overall sound than the magnet material. I mean there is a basic difference, but if you watch Ed Friedlands demo of the 25th anniversary (now called the reflex), the series and parallel pickup sounds are quite different.

Before any further comparisons though, I need to put different strings on the SR5 HS.

After looking at different SR5 schematics now I understand what are you talking about. So many variations with the only one model across the time. That is stunning.
I do not know how compare HS series and H series, but I do not really like it with single H. Parallel is my favorite.

The SR5 HS doesn't have a parallel option, as it is wired pretty much like the Sterling HS models. The multi pickup model Sterlings only have the option for series wiring on the bridge humbucker, just like the Multi-pickup Stingray 5's did before 2008. Now the Stingray 5's only have parallel wiring, except for the single H, which can do series or parallel.

the 25th Anniversary Bass/ Reflex has a whole bunch of options.
