Just curious if any of you have played with or have humbuckers in a single coil pickup. In the past I've played the Duncan Duckbucker and Little '59 in the neck of a really bad guitar but haven't tried one since. That was when they came out over 20 years ago by now. I still have the pickups in a box somewhere I think. I should take them out and try them.

Also, are there any P90ish pickups in a single coil sized pickup?

The Dimarzio Area- series.are EXCELLENT. truly a humbucker so no hum but produced vintage single coil chime and quack. The real benefit is that they retain single coil tones but give humbucker like body and growl on a dirty or.Od channel. Check em out.

I really like the Lawrence L298 (noiseless). Fenderish in character, but higher output. Killer with gain. Have it in the bridge slot of the AL I gig with.

I think I'm leaning toward a Dimarzio Fast Track 2 or Super Distortion S for the bridge. I want Van Halen I /80's rock tones. Still not sure which to get though. No one seems to have either in white here in the islands so I guess I'll need to order it online as usual.

I had a lil' 59 in the neck position of a guitar years ago, and it was good. Can't say much else about it.

A buddy of mine has a DiMarzio Chopper in the bridge of his tele and, wow, it's amazing. Somewhere between single coil and humbucking sounds, it was big and loud and the sustain and harmonics were just ridiculous! I don't know how P-90-ish it is but it may be an option to look into!

Dimarzio Cruiser is a nice pickup as well. I'd stick with the bridge model regardless of which position you are going to use it in.

+1 on the Area series as well.

I also used a SD Hot Rails in the bridge of a strat before. Definately hot rodded the Fender tone.

D Allen Johnny Blades... I put them in my Silo and it totally changed that guitar. They can go from rock to chicken picking... They're not cheap, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Whoa. Just saw some vids of those pickups. If love to hear more of your thoughts about them. These are serious contenders.

Here's what I wrote back in April when I first put them in the guitar... This was during the honeymoon stage but nothing's changed, I still feel the same way about those pickups. No matter what preset I use on the HD500 the guitar covers it.

"I'm not sure how David did it, but they sound great clean, gritty and with high gain. They stay clean and articulate from top to bottom in all switch positions. I took a guess at the pickup heights but doubt that I will change them much. I've never had a neck pickup that sounded so clean and "unmuddy" anywhere on the neck, single notes or chords.

With my HD500 I had a couple of presets that ran the gamut of tones, I had a Bassman Clean, Plexi for the grittier tones and a modded JCM800 for the high gain. I was blown away by all three.

I couldn't believe that I could get a Tele twang, rip your head off overdrive or a beautiful shimmery clean from the same set of pickups

Thanks for the reply! I went back in the archives and read that thread when I couldn't sleep last night.

Question: are you using the stock pots 250k or did you change to 500k? Also curious if these can do 80s metal ala Van Halen (or ballpark, of course). They sound very versatile from all the demos I've seen.

I'm using the stock 250K pots, but added the recommended capacitor that D Allen shipped with the pick ups. And yeah, it'll cover 80's metal... I currently have it tuned down a half-step to play some Van Halen, Ratt and Guns N' Roses.

Placed my order this morning! Will report back when I put them in. Thanks for the recommendation. This place is always great for getting suggestions from a smaller group but with really great taste.

To All: Thanks so much for your feedback and suggestions!

Happy New Year!

I have Duncan Hot Rails in my Tele. They sound nothing like a Tele pickup! Its more like a slightly thinner version of my Axis to be honest! I use this as a backup axe at gigs, and it does the trick quite nicely!

How'd you end up with a Tele as your backup to your Axis? (or for those in the know.....your ASS.....hehe).
