Just received through the post a clear PG from WD music from Uk for my Piezo blessed Trans red ´Ray, and it was a perfect fit!! Although the bass is 10 years old there were no fade issues on the body...Which has given me an idea...Whats to stop anyone from using an Inkjet or laser printer to print a tort or anything else design on paper and placing it underneath the clear guard, you can let the imagination run riot on this....Thanks to KevinM for posting those colour swatches on Lanelines previous post, As for names what do you call your Bass ? Mines been christened "Nobby" cos ive got five of em....Should really get out a bit more often:eek:

I call this one the "Jesus Bongo". :D
It's a printout of a wallpaper I have on my computer underneath a clear guard.

I think the possibilities are endless. I can't take credit for the idea because I saw it from somebody else here.
I have printed out tort pics before but they have to be enlarged and the color correct. Once you enlarge the pic it doesn't look as good to me. A brown tort I tried showed a lot of red after being enlarged.

Something else that has come to mind is to be careful of the print media for color bleed. The ink needs to be dried completely and I have even thought of curing the pic in the oven in low temp to make sure it wont leave any residue on the guitar body.

Have fun with it.

I've used clear PGs as picture frames on previous basses,
such as my Dano 58LH cuz it came std with a clear PG. I
clipped my pix from magazines, so in order to avoid any
of the reverse side of the page showing thru I backed up
my clipped art with black paper. That same trick would
avoid the dye-bleed issue, and is also a good idea color-
wise, even if you print your own pix, cuz it avoids a color
cast that could be added to your print if you have one of
the brighter colors for the body finish.

P.S. I do not nick name my basses as a rule, altho my
desert gold Boingo became "The Infamous Orange Bass"
due to some flip flops of Ms Diva's attitude toward using
it in the Diva duo. At one point she banned it, and at a
later time she requested [demanded!] that I include it.
This acoarst is preficklee normal behavior for a diva :-/

I have an old clear gloss ash SR4 with really cool grain,
which our fiddle & geetar guy calls "That Fine Piece of
Ash". He's a woodworker by trade, but he knows what
he's saying ;-)

My favorite clear PG underlay so far was done years ago with Spongebob wrapping paper - it may have been on one of Cheese's basses because it featured Patrick the starfish.

I think I remember that one. There was a thread with some very cool underlays. It may have been my inspiration for the clear pg idea.

That's unfortunate.
Everybody's offended by by something but I think most, if not all the forum members here look past the philosophical differences and focus on the things we have in common.
I know I do and have no intention of getting on my soapbox and forcing my ideology here.
If someone has a difference of opinion I leave it alone and let them be who they are.
I like people and think it's our differences that make us interesting.

With that said I put up the pg pic because it goes with your topic.
Like Golem said above, I don't usually name my basses either and wouldn't know what to name the others but the name for the blue pearl Bongo just seemed to jump out at me.
Just my thing.

One other bit of advice with underlay pictures:
Be careful not to damage your balls. :D
