RUN- Do not walk to buy/order the new Sabre.

No digital camera not even on my cheap cellphone. So what? Trust me. You've seen them or soon will I hope,

I was working at, & thus confined to my Booth at NAMM, however I did break away & manage to make it a point to see certain bass-related stuff I was interested in. (My booth was next to Epifani & across from GK, so although I heard many bassists shred including the great Reggie Young- Please let's have a brief moment of non-slapping, please. Thank you!- especially YOU- Jeff Berlin, who does not slap- I like slapping & to slap myself, but not incessantly.)

Back on topic-
I smiled instantly when first I saw the "Cowboys & Indians theme" THAT EBMM Booth sure knows how to party, year after year.

And I DID play the Sabre which is awesome as were the demo headphones, which seemed to sound much better than I remember..

The Sabre bass is a gem; get one; you'll be glad you did. It seemed to take a lot of turns to engage the string mutes tho; maybe I'm missing something.

Terrific bass, really holds more than it's own against some super $$ boutique stuff.

I'm going to see if I can swing either a CAR or Black one with a maple neck. It just felt so good!

Glad I'm home; VERY noisy there.

thanks for that "man on the street" report!, but see the Sabre thread, no CAR and no black, (unless you have connections, or are named Randy Jackson).

Black it would be then. Not really too connected, not Randy Jackson either, dawg. :D
I played the SB; nice finish too.

Hi Mabongohogany - these basses look awesome - did you try the selector switch settings? How did you find the various combinations? I can't wait to try one of these - especially with the slient circuit - be interesting to check out the single coil settings.

Sorry I know you didn't have much time but any info is better than none!

Perhaps Ed Friedland could do a video review sometime ;) that would be awesome

I DID spend quality time w/ the Sabre, using the very kewl headphone set-up MM provides!

Going to order some Thai food now (Ahhh, to be HOME!) & I will be back to post/ report on what I thought of the bass; selector switch, mutes, etc.
And yeah, Ed would provide a great showing of this model!

EDIT: "40-50 minutes for delivery" so...

Of course the EBMM booth is totally user-friendly; instruments hung, plug in the cans and dial in a model of an SVT, Bassmnan etc. Sounded good!
I went through all (5) positions of the selector switch, you know the drill, both pups, etc. In the manual.
Of course not quite the same as hearing it through your own rig, but it absolutely provides the definition of tonal differences. Sorry, can't quire recall which position I liked; pretty sure it was in the middle somewhere.
Really liiked the neck of this bass, and tho it was heavy, it felt great, real well-balanced. Beautifully built and finished of course.

String mutes give a great old-school thump; it took quite a long time to raise them to touch the string; then I had a problem lowering them as well. Could well be due to my exhaustion; they sounded great when applied.

I've owned a Sterling (2X) and currently have an OG Mahogany Bongo- Dead sold on the Sabre. Kind of bridges the gap between a 'Ray & a Sterling to my mind.
High-Priority on my WANT list.
