I was going over my guitar today, and just noticed some things that made me confused.

1) the headstock logo is gold. I've seen some with SILVER. Is there a reason for one or the other???

2) The neck woods seem to be varied. Mine has a very very awesome flame maple neck, Ive seen most with birdseye maple, and even some with NO figure at all. Was there a ryhme or reason to which ones go which type of wood?

3) Why is the locking nut shelf so small... same with my axis. Seems silly to not have the shelf be full size... almost appears "cheap" and "lazy" to be honest.

4) my neck has SIX screw holes. There are pencil markings, and arrows and a "MW" stamped into the wood. Anyone have any ideas?

5) was the "tone" knob original, or is mine just more of a "tribute"? lol

thanks guys!

edit: mostly interested in the gold logo. Mines literally the only one I can find that has a gold logo!

My guess is that the logo color varies between the finish used on the guitar. Ex: it wouldn't make much sense for a white logo to be on a white or other very light colored guitar.

Well I agree completely. However, literally EVERY OTHER red one (im scouring the web) has a white/silver logo. Mine being gold, is completely seemingly abnormal.

this is mine (ignore the pink color, the camera or lighting played tricks lol) The logo is DEFINITELY gold.

I think the "tone" knob was EVH's idea. Do you have tuning issues? The nut clamps look like they're oriented wrong. I bought a used guitar that had them oriented like your pic and it wouldn't stay in tune. Then I realized what the owner did and fixed it. Different brand though which is why I'm not sure.

In all the years of owning 50++ of these , and seeing many others, I have never come across a Gold Logo. It is possible it could have been refinished, and an aftermarket Logo used ..................
The first thing I would suggest is to use the thread above to find out the production info on your guitar. If you give them your serial number , they can typically tell you the date of manufacture, the original color, and where it was shipped to .

Yep ... there have been a lot of scams in the past with other items passed off as EVHs. I would get confirmation on the serial number to be sure what you have.

Yeah theres a couple things "unique" to mine. Im speaking with customer service at EBMM as we speak, I'll let you guys know

edit: DEFINITELY verified to be an EBMM EVH model, red, from 1992. Shipped to NJ Bass and guitar or something like that.

I believe the neck and/or bodies (in the neck joint) have an extra hole for a screw that it hangs from while being painted/finished before the two parts are attached.

Not sure what you mean by locking nut "shelf" but, yeah, as acwild point out, your locking nut thingy's (the 3 squares that you screw down) are rotated 90 degrees wrongly.

No idea about the gold logo part.

I know about the pads haha. Thats just how I received the guitar is all. I have proper chrome pads for it now.

Well I spoke with AJ @ customer service, and... they didn't know either .... haha lets see where this goes.

FWIW, I own 2 axis models to directly compare to. this is NOT an Axis with another logo. Likewise, theres no way its fake.

The extra screws in the neck were probably an alignment issue... the hole in the middle for painting and stuff is there, however, there are two extra holes ( I misremembered. AJ had me take it apart and take more pictures, so I got to see it again).

Serial number checks out properly thank god lol.

This guitar was just made on a Monday morning, that's all ;)

hahaha. That particular thought has crossed my mind. The logo thing is REALLY bugging me now haha. They said they didn't make any red ones with gold logos, so they are showing the pictures around to see whats going on.

Its good that you got confirmation on the serial number , as there have been many cases of people "converting" the (Japanese Market) Axis EX to EVHs. Unlike the USA Axis , the pickup switch is in the same place as the EVH which makes it relatively easy ...............

Well... apparently this one is just unique! AJ and Duddley from customer service both have no idea what it could be. Hopefully I may be able to figure this one out!\

Both have stated this doesn't appear to be a refinish or "conversion".

We never had issues with that silver fading (that Dudley or I can recall). Everything on his guitar looks normal except the color of the logos/"made in slo" on the headstock. It is possible that we did a gold logo somehow in the mix of things. This guitar was originally shipped to a normal store account.
