Hey guys! It's been a while but I'm back now and am VERY excited to hear that rosewood necks are back! I need help deciding which guitar to go with. I've been wanting a koa for the longest but have recent fallen for bfrs. I love the way both play and sound but I don't really know what either will sound like with rosewood necks. Could any of you guys who have rosewood necks or have used them weigh in here? I've head that rosewood tends to warm things up but that doesn't really tell me much. I'm personally leaning towards a bfr with a rosewood neck because I feel like it would be a really well balanced instrument since every bfr I've played always had a certain piercing quality/plinkiness about them. Anyways, thanks guys!

I am very curious about the Koa with rosewood neck but decided to go with the BFR, who knows how I feel towards the end of the month may have to empty out the acct for a Koa as well LOL. To me the rosewood necks have a real buttery feeling. The way they sound acoustically is amazing to my ears. I have actually reached a point that besides 1 PRS all of my other guitars have rosewood necks. They sound warmer and with the right amp seem to have a certain bite to them that I have not been able to get from a mahogany neck. anyways that is my 2 cents

rosewood necks gove the guitar a smoother top-end. warmer maybe the right word for it.
if you compare it to a guitar with ebony freboard and maple neck, you'll miss some of this fast attack sound which comes from harder woods.
the feeling of an unfinished rosewood neck is awesome.

In my opinion its largely down to the feel of the neck, that special something and the rosewood neck/fret has it in huge bundles.

And don't forget the aesthetics, they look a million dollars or pounds !!

I loooove how fast the attack is on the BFR's but they've got a rosewood fretboard so I suppose i'm not really going to be changing much. I'd just be going from a mahogany neck to a rosewood neck. How do the mahogany and rosewood differ? Both are known for being warm-ish woods so I can't see much difference other than feel and aesthetics. BTW what's this I hear about rosewood doing something to the high-mids that translates into harshness under high gain??

Never had that myself... I've found quite the opposite, that with my Albert Lee HH I can actually whack the gain up and the guitar (maybe the neck, I don't know) just contains it without being harsh. It does have a very smooth top end... almost like a natural compression, rather than the 'spank' of an all-maple neck. Could be pickups, amp, etc... YMMV. The feel is fantastic though, no doubt.
