Hello everyone...

So, I am really enjoying playing my guitars. I like to have variety so I don't get bored, and fortunately ebmm offers us a diverse medley of woods to enjoy. The one thing that I was sorely missing in my collection was an all rosewood neck. I've played an Albert Lee HH at Guitar Center and I loved how the all rosewood neck felt. I have several roasted maple necks, so I reached out to my friend, Mario, and struck up a little trade.

Here's my Luke III - emerald green with a roasted neck:

I pulled the neck and mailed it to Mario. He swapped it onto his Olive Gold Luke III:

I must say, that the roasted color really compliments the olive gold. And, what a nice neck it is...super heavy birdseye and a caramel color; somewhat darker than the average roasted.

I cut a piece of wood to strap to the neck and had to modify a shipping box, so we are reusing the shipping materials. We will keep you posted on the rosewood on emerald green swap.

Mario: how are you getting along with your new neck?

interesting... and cool!
I've grown very fond of the MM unfinished necks... feels strange to play anything else now.
I'll be curious to hear how much the rosewood neck changes / darkens the tone....

I think this is an awesome idea Bryan! Can't wait to see how you like your Luke 3... Mario's Luke is looking killer too!

I'm thinking the tone may be less bright, too. I love pinch harmonics, so that will be the test.

It would be awesome to have some video comparing both on the same guitar, both with clean and drive tones.

I know. I thought of that after it was too late. Plus, I don't have the ability to record anything. I'm super primitive with computers and technology. I'm old school...tube amps and pedals.

I'm tempted on a daily basis to swap around stuff. Must... maintain... self... control...

mmmmwahahahaha....come to the dark side with me!

Bryan, should have had Mario do it! He had both necks at the same time at one point

You're right that the rosewood neck should make it a little darker and less bright, but you should still be able to pull pinch harmonics because of the pups.

Thanks, Kevin...so do I ;)

I can't wait to feel the luxurious rosewood. You know I've always lusted after your Tobacco Burst BFR.

Yeah, if i ever sell that one, you'll get first shot at it. I'd have a hard time parting with it. That rosewood neck is silky smooth.

Thank you very much. I am very publicly calling dibs on it. Although, I can't for the life of me remember which one it is?

Hey hey, late to the party here.
The neck swap went well. Bryan packed it very well and I almost kept the KISS shirt he added for extra padding :).

Very cool neck indeed. For me, swapping was a no brainer when Bryan brought it up. I said yes within a split second :) I already have an all rosewood neck on one of my AL's and if I had the option, I'd go roasted every time.

The tone is a little brighter now but if I roll off the treble a tad I get into familiar territory. I'm used to that tone from the LIII so I'll probably stick with that for a bit. The rosewood does offer a slightly "darker" tone. To my ears it brings out a mildly woodier /slightly compressed tone which I totally love.

Anyhow, the new neck looks sick, loving it and the feel is tip top.

Ha, mine is the one on the left, with the chrome knobs. The one on the right belongs to T-show. I saw it on GC and grabbed it. I knew(without talking to him) that he would want it. We both scored. You're gonna love the feel of the all rosewood.

BTW, taking off the neck and replacing it with the new one was quite the experience in that the fit is very tight. The pocket is such an exact fit that it took a little gentle persuasion to get it in/out/seated properly.

I also went ahead and changed string gauge to Hybrids from the original 9 gauge so I had about an hour of dialing things back in. Amongst other things tweaks, I added a trem spring and adjusted the claw for the slightly heavier gauge to put the "float" back in. This is why I have the trem plate off in the photo.
