I never heard an EBMM sound bad with a Mesa amp.

I use an Engl Powerball and love the tones I can get with my LIIIs and 25th Anni.

I must say for modelers i still have an old line 6 pod 2.0 and it totally rocks, as far as the fractal and kemper stuff i ve never tried it, but that old pod sounds killer with headphones or recorded, its all the operator not the gear, plus tone is in the hands, i agree with that, i have a marshall jtm 30 and a class 5, both good tube amps but not the modern high gain sound i want, i really want a peavey 5150 combo!

My Luke 3 with rosewood neck has an awesome synergy with my Mesa Mark IIC+, it's like the brightness of the amp is sort of offset by the darkness of the rosewood neck Luke, I love the combination.

Ebmms sound good with a mesa, but sound better with a Divided by 13 amp.

It had to return my 5:50 the next day after putting it against an 11 watt cj11.

My AMW 39 takes it to another level.

Thanks for the reply's everyone! I thought there would be a few votes for Axe FX and the like, as I have noticed they are a popular choice here - just as an main 'amp' solution, they are not for me. Modern day modellers have certainly comes leaps and bounds ahead of capturing more of the feel of a real amp I must say, compared to the earlier Line 6 stuff - I can see why they make complete sense for a lot of people.

I suppose just Musicman guitars in general is a bit of a broad term, as the sort of sound a JP user would be after would differ from an Albert Lee I'm sure. Since I own both humbucker and single coil Axis guitars and play a variety of styles, an amp as versatile as my guitars is an essential, sometimes difficult, thing to find.

Am I right in thinking a good way to generalise would be that most (bar the Rectifier's and a few others) of the Mesa/Boogie's are likened to hot rodded Fender's? and Bogner as hod rodded Marshall types? With most Boogie's using 6L6's, can they do the Marshall thing (to a degree) quite convincingly too?

Nice to see that going for a Mesa seems to be a tried and tested combination with a lot of the users here - will make the saving up worth it in the end I hope!

If you want versatility in one amp get an Axe Fx with all its nuances. If you want Marshall distortion get a Marshall. If you want Mesa Distortion get a Mark V or a Rectifier (they are different), if you want Fender cleans get a Fender amp.
People might tell you that the Mark V can pull Fender cleans and Marshall gains on channel 2 - they are wrong... it might be similar but not the real deal. I have a Mark V and it is the prefect amp for what I want and I don't expect it to do marshall, fender, orange, you-name-it sounds.

Heh I'm the only person I know with a JP6 that plays it through a Vox AC30.

My philosophy is that just because a certain instrument may be targeted towards a certain demographic, that doesn't mean it can't be used for other things. The main examples that come to mind are John Fogerty playing a JP6, or Matt Bellamy using his Manson 7 string. That being said I'm not planning on grabbing a Tele and starting a death metal anytime soon hahaha.

The rd 50 will have a 12 ax7 (equiv) and 2 6L6 power tubes .
Can't wait for them to come out!!!

I am excited to hear some reviews about them from the early owners when the time comes. I am especially interested to find out more about the new drive pedal they are releasing to go with the amps. Maybe I've missed something along the way, but does anyone now whether they are doing a high gain sort of pedal? Or more of just a crunch? Given the design and vintage vibe of the amps, I can probably answer my own question though and assume not too much more than a crunch.

Thanks for all the suggestions and replies, it's very interesting to see what everyone is using. I suppose it really is down to the individual tastes we have, as there's quite a wide variety here! Nice to here some encouraging words still pointing towards the Mesa's and more specifically, the Mark V. It might well be the one which matches up, in terms of versatility and quality, with what I need.
