What's better than a Bongo?

Why, a pair of Bongos, of course.



Greetings, everyone. First post here. I just got my first Bongos, so I figured I should come over here and say "Hi." I played a Bongo years ago in GC, but had a hard time affording one at the time. But I didn't forget... and never being prone to excess (cough, cough), I picked up two of them.

Neptune Blue PDN 4HH, and Black/Antique Pearl 4H. Found them both used, in near perfect condition. None of the photos I have of the Neptune even come close to doing it justice. The grain showing through the trans finish is just unreal.

They're both serious players; and hard to put down. I still love my other basses, but these Bongos... dang.

Congratulations on your Bongos - I suppose in answer to your question, a Bongo with a piezo - mine happens to have one - it's very nice, but definitely not essential

The neptune blue needs a little bright light to pop - standing the bass in bright sunlight does the trick (see attached!!) - under lighting on stage it has a similar effect - when I use mine it catches the eye of the audience and the first time I used it I was a little perturbed at seeing people staring at me - then I realised it was the bass and the colour change as you move around!!

Oh, I imagine I will... but I figured I should start with two.

I decided to put a parchment guard on the HH, so I ordered one from pickguard heaven. I really like blue with parchment, and I think the neptune will look great with it. I'll post an updated pic, and I'll try taking the photos outside on a sunny day.

I've also got some flats on order for the HH, and may end up putting a set on the H as well. I'll have to play around with things and see how they end up. I love flats on just about anything, and I suspect they'll kill on a Bongo.

I'm dying to try the Cobalt flats. My ship slipped to end of April/early May. Bongo plus flats equals happy fun time. I hope my brain can survive my favorite roundwound turned into a flatwound on the Bongos.

Me too. My only concern with them, as with all strings, is the tension. If they're high tension, they won't be the string for me. If they're low to medium tension, they might just be the ticket.

Same here. I keep getting delay notifications. My fretless Ray is anxiously awaiting.

I suspect that the Cobalt Flats will be pretty low tension. One characteristic of the Cobalt strings I've tried (both for bass and guitar) is that they have a softer feel than the equivalent Nickel Wound strings. So, if the same holds true with these flats they'll be pretty comfortable to play.
