I had read the review on it in the latest Guitarist Magazine where they raved and said it was on par quality and sound wise with a boutique instrument. Funny thing was they gave it 4 1/2 stars out of 5, with the drawback being they they were not crazy for the one they tested having a black finish did it no justice.lol I thought green was the color people are supposedly not crazy for. Black?

I have that magazine and it is so ridiculous that they deducted the half point because it was black. If it was me I'd have added a point 'cos it was black!!:)

In the latest guitar world the guy reviewed the Sterling by Music Man and dinged us on both of the reviews for excessive string tension. He even went as far as to saty that the fact that if we slanted the headstock it would reduce the string tension...absolute self appointed expert..and why I hate magazine reviews. I talked to the editor and said that scale lingth and string gauge is the same regardless of the headstock or guitar. they are printing a correction...the editor tried to say it was subjective I forwarded him scientific data and then he apologized.

That is ridiculous. Even I know that. Do the reviewers and editors not need any kind of credentials or expertise to publish something? You'd think that ELLE Magazine may get that one wrong, but Guitar World? They should have a clue about guitars....

Thats why I don't buy guitar magazines anymore. Tired of them drooling over the same "junk" over and over... Ewwww look! F****r changed the color of the pickguard screws, said it is a custom-vintage-reliced-replica of the guitar that Pee Wee Herman played on the "who cares tour" then gave it a bargin price of $1,000,000 with a limited number of 25,000,000 being produced... every guitar player must have this!

But, a black Albert Lee... that so Henry Ford...

Hey BP, here is a question. Since the reviewer didn't like the Black HH AL... did he send it back?

I am still laughing over the review in Guitarist Magazine. The reviewer starts off by saying "EBMM is renowned for impeccable build quality, enviable necks and playability, as well as a top notch roster of guitar and bass players, Music Mans styling is unique." He then states he will lay his cards on the table and say the that the three single-coil AL has always been his favorite MM sixstringer, and then says how the instrument was good enough to have weaned one of the worlds most jaw dropping guitarist off his once trademark Teles, so take it lightly at your peril.

He then gives as stellar of a review on the AL HH as possible stating how it is on par of a boutique built instrument and that in his early years Lee played a guitar with humbuckers so this is a move in that direction, and the humbuckers sing while the single coil combination's provide the "vowelly" in-between tones that Albert enjoys."Very appealing" Also how the oiled and waxed rosewood neck is as smooth as any he has played.

So they have the side bar at the end to sum it up-We Like, Boutiquebuild:convincing humbucker/single-coil tones:unique look:great neck.... We Dislike: The all black look does it no justice.

I have to say that it is mind boggling to say a fault is that the model had a black finish, earlier on he mentioned how the black finish was the least appealing of the available hues-"Give us Classic White,Powder Blue or Mint Green any day as the Albert Lee was made for that sixties Chevy look.

So just go out and pick the finish that does it for you as they are available, I mean what guitar be it a Strat, Tele, Les Paul ,PRS or whatever is not offered in black. I may see that he had a valid point if the guitar was only offered in a black finish which it is not, which makes the rating make you scratch your head and go huh?

I can sum it up better -the AL HH totally kicks a$$.lol

Really The JP ??

Feels more like an Ibanez neck than a music man if you ask me ..

Actually, i used to be an Ibanez player. Owned 6 different models. i can assure you, none of them feels like the JP neck. They may share similarity in flatness, but that's where the similarity ends.

Yeah, I wish there was a way that the readers could write a review on the reviewers!!

By the way, where do these magazines find these guys - I heard they were all ex drummers!

Guys - The UK magazines just don't seem to come out with crap like that.....I think Guitarist and the more 'teen-rawk' magazine Total Guitar gave the Stirling models great reviews and a couple of their awards. UK mags don't seem as sensationalised as Guitar World etc etc. I just can't even bring myself to take that magazine off the shelf to thumb through it anymore.......I think the UK mags hold MusicMan in the highest esteem.......damn right as well! ;o)

They probably put the 'colour does it no justice ' remark in there, because they could find no other faults with it.
I still have the Guitarist review for the Luke I from back in 1993, where they stated how great it was, then said they should have put different colour pickups in it to spruce up it's looks. Give me a break !

I would almost put money on Pearl Red Burst being the most popular colour for said JP sales.

Why I won't put money on it? Because I need that money for EBMMs, damn it.

I am with Brand X on the quality of the UK magazines as the US publications do not even come close, and that is why I pay $15 an issue. He is also correct in the Sterling's getting their make awards which is why that rating was puzzling for the guitar having a Black finish. But to keep it real and as a steady reader of them last decade EBMM instruments are held on a steady basis with the highest respect. By the way we all know I am a New Yorker.lol
