Thanks Tollie, that's where I'm starting. Sent them an email yesterday and I'm waiting to hear back. I actually ordered a replacement guard for my Big Al from them a few years ago and they did a nice job.

I'm not sure it's the same bass as I meant - though it does seem quite similar to the heavily tigerstriped headstock one I meant.
Or do you happen to know that it is in fact the very same bass?
Anyway, this neptune blue finish is as stunning as they come. I'm totally taken away by it.
If I remember this thread correctly, it's mostly SR and Bongo basses that have been ordered. That must make your incoming Sabre quite special.

pics soon, but after waiting the holiday weekend with the bass sitting in the fedex truck in my own town (ugh) my Big Al 5SSS showed up. It's a looker for sure, and I actually like the 'plainer' figuring on the neck in this particular case, as well as the very straight grain in the mahogany under the color.
I gotta say though, there isn't any extra room on that fingerboard, is there? I'll check the spacing, but looks like the g string could move just a scoche inward at the nut, and that would help. Add the ss frets (which are bomb, btw) and the g string just slides off the board whenever i touch it around the middle frets. Anyone have any advice in this regard? I'll suck it up and quit whining, i promise. ;-)

Yeah - very excited!!! Not only will it probably be a rare Neptune blue Sabre, it'll be an even rarer mahogany bodied Sabre, with roasted maple neck - sort of justifying having two v similar basses (Sabre and SR4HH) in my mind!
I think that is the thread with the Bongo with tiger striped neck - I haven't noticed any others in this thread.
Have you noticed any difference in sound between your new Stingray and others? Was wondering what the difference will be - I'm hoping the Sabre will be to a regular one as 30th Anniversary Stingray is to regular Stingray.
I got my Bongo yesterday.
The flame on the next is killer.
The unfinished roasted maple next is the smoothest neck I've ever played on.
I can see why some of the guys like roundwounds on their fretless basses.
They throw the mwah factor over the top.
I put the EB flats on it cause I like the smoothness and tone better.
As the single H aficionados have said, the single H does have a certain way about it.
I think it focuses the tone really good.
The magnet to piezo blend changes the character some but the eq settings have the biggest effect.
I found the best setting I liked with my ampeg was bass and low mid boosted to the max and high mid and treble cut all the way.
I took some pics but I'm not real impressed with them.
I'll put a couple up tonight so you know it really happened.

In case anybody was wondering what the Neptune Blue looks like with a clear pickguard:
Got the guard from Pickguard Heaven, they did a great job and got it here fast. My Big Al in the background also has an aftermarket guard they made for me.

I think I hit the jackpot with this bass.
Between the single H with piezo and the fretless fingerboard this is the best sounding Bongo I have.
I know better than to never say never but I'll put this one over all my basses except the 25th anniversary reflex.

2 similar basses: Yes indeed! As long as we don't own 172 of them yet, each and every justification is justified.
Tigerstriped Bongo: Thanks! I think I must learn to forget those pix, which I feel are from an older thread right after the first mentioning of them. I think it's better for my health that way.
SR sound: Sadly, I'm not the one to be able to judge - first and foremost because I'm a noob, but also because my other SR is fretless, and the new one either must settle or needs a setup, as it's rattle symphony right now. I'll look into that soon.

I knew the Bongo is a Beast, but a Bongo with a manly tigerstriped body is a BeastBeast. I love it.

No, Stu, I didn't. December they say. That said, there is no reason to expect the same type of stunner. It's just one I ordered before it was built.

My Neptune Blue Classic Sabre has arrived
Impeccable build quality, weighs about the same as my lightest Stingray and sounds excellent. Not really had chance to AB with my Classic Stingray to hear the sound differences the different materials make when playing with the single bridge H but I'm really digging the sounds it makes. Position 4 (bridge H plus single coil neck) is particularly nice as it retains the bite of the soloed bridge H but with a little more warmth thrown in.
The neck is quite dark, and is flamed - not wildly but enough to really notice. The body colour ranges dependent on light but is spectacular.
The neck finish is amazing - the fastest neck I've ever played. I'm extremely pleased!!

The roasted neck was the clincher for me. I had decided on a fretless around the beginning of the year and was waiting for a limited edition with a roasted maple neck to order one. I was not disappointed.
