So I have had a PAF Pro and EVO2 in my 20th Silo for some time now, and I decided I need something else. The PAF Pro sounds nice in the neck, and the EVO2 has some nice crunch and is great for searing leads as well as for the chugging rhythm. However I took a liking to moderate output pickups thanks to the Air Zone in my Silo Special, which made me want to put a Timmons model in the bridge and either a Air Norton in the neck or the 36th PAF. Just looking for a nice fat but defined tone basically.

Last night I got home and spontaneously decided to put the ORIGINAL pickups back in! I think it was also the PM I got from straycat113 that got me thinking about the pickups...because honestly I completely forgot what they sounded like. I was also inspired by all the recent pictures of the other 20th Silos, HH ALs and 25th guitars with the chrome covers. It just really seems to be the perfect style for the guitar, even though I wanted to stray a bit from the vintage-like look. So I wired em up last night and plugged in for a few minutes, and they just sounded great! I think I will keep em in there for a little while :D.

I also wanted to state in general that the 20th Silo works VERY well with different pickups. I did previously also have an Air Norton and Steve's Special in there for a little bit, and that yielded nice tones as well. It's just an overall amazing guitar and feel very lucky to have this one.

I ALSO wanted to say that BP and everyone at EBMM know exactly what works (duhhhh hehehe) for the specific guitars when it comes to pickups right off the bat and everything else for that matter. I love these guitars!

(Hope people enjoy this thread and discuss whatever related the 20th Silo or regular Silos and anything regarding the tone and pickups. To put things sort of on track with everything EBMM on here ;))

Of course I must include the pics of what it was and what it is AGAIN (old pic though when it originally came that way :))

20th Pickups

I haven't ever considered changing the pickups in my 20th, but one thing I will comment on that I find really clever about these guitars is the way that the pickups are secured (the 3 point mounting ring). This allows me to easily set the perfect height and angle of the pickups. In a typical 2 point arrangment, the pickups can rock back and forth and often sit at an undesirable angle requiring wedges or some other type of creative fiddling to correct. I always admire and appreciate well thought out engineering like this.

I love the chrome covers on my guitar too.... but I noticed the other day that they are pretty well tarnished. How do you guys keep 'em so shiny?

I wipe mine off with a Microfiber cloth whenever I change the strings. Seems to be working.

just noticed this on mine too... i've tried to balance out the playing time between my standard and 20th but lately i've been picking my 20th more and more... it's just got something about it that just sings to my ears... cleans up very well and can just down right boogie if i need it to... perfect guitar in my eyes... now if i could just find one with a wiggle stick i might drop my standard... LOL

Yea, the adjustable pickup rings are brilliant as well. At first it was also peculiar to me, but they grew on me a LOT and I love them. I love that you can adjust it any possible way and for the pickups to be rock solid in place as if they were direct mounted.

I also just wipe off the pickups after every time I play actually, but eventually they will get worn out anyway. Since I had them stored away for a while they developed some slight corrosion, so I have to take care of that. I think any good chrome polish for cars should do the trick to keep em nice and shiny.

Now the tone block...I cant imagine this guitar without it!!! I think even if you throw the darkest pickups into this guitar, the combination of tone woods will make it nice and clear and jump out. I really love the overall tone that this guitar produces.

The best set of pickups I've ever had in my 20ths were a set of Tonerider Alnico 4 Classics, installed upside down. Sweet sweet tones. Then I decided to remove them stupidly, and I lost those pups...

Rob I am glad you reconnected with your pups, and even happier someone did not snatch them from you when you posted them for sale.

I did not want to sound like a broken record, and boy it was like talking someone out of jumping from the ledge.lol But one day you would of regretted it and finding an original pair years from now would of been close to impossible.Glad you changed your mind, and man that is one honey of a top on that ax-now plug in and tear it up!

i actually had thought about snagging the 20th pickups when they went up... but never pulled the trigger... (you're welcome Rob- LOL) I was going to put them in my standard silo and split 'em at the neck and bridge... that would have been some sweet sweet tone... LOL!

The stock 20th pickups get the job done for me. My favorite tones come out of these pickups!

Hi All,
anyone knows if it's possible found a replacement for these pickups? I buy one silo 20th second hand. I know before the previous owner don't have the original pups but facing 1000€ for a brand new un-used jewel like the 20th silo....i can't resist. So my questions are:
- someone knows how to find a couple of original customdimarzio for the 20th Silo?
- someone knows if the pot are 500 or 250 and wich brand mount the silo?

Just for check if something is change other than the pups.

Thanks to all.

I would contact Dimarzio and ask which of their production pickups are closest to the 20th Silo pickups. It's going to be hard to find some original pickups on the used market.

Great thing tondo! If you have some news share with us. and for the pot? Just because the guy change puos with a couple of paf and the pot with a split-pot for single coil styles.
