to the best of my knowledge zero money is going to charity for the EVH relics......

I thought EVH is a charity these days... or is he a relic? Hmm...
:D :D

Wow! I can't believe they're putting that kind of price tag on such a guitar. I thought Charvel was nuts to ask over 3 grand for their short-lived enterprise.. and this is an order of magnitude more!

$25,000.oo for a EVH "Frankenstein" replica is steep, but keep in mind that the SRV "No. 1" replicas have more than doubled in value ($10,000.oo to $24,000.oo) since they were produced. That said, I think $10,000.oo is a more realistic price for the "Frankenstein".

evh's fender looks like something i could cook up while hungover after a 3 day in a row stretch :D
i would not pay for that guitar at all! im not saying anything bad about evh's playing or about him as a person since i dont know him, just the fact that the guitar looks like ****! doesnt matter if it looks just like his first fender, it still looks like **** ;)
i guess for a vh fanboy it looks like gold, and if that person got the cash to buy the stash im happy for him. id rather use my money on something good (like the 20th sr5 ;))

only one of em here in norway.. hangs in the tre45 store in trondheim. if they are lucky there will be one rich stupid bastard in our 4 million citizens in total who will buy it. wouldnt count on it though :)

this kinda thing is why i suck at business.....i think those srv's like like total ****.....& i wouldn't give you more that 300 bucks for one....due to the fact that the first thing i'd have to do is strip it.....refin it.......& put new pickups into it.
but that's just me.

I do ask myself about your use of "ass". Is it a body part or......

Anyway, the next logical step is to ask, "What is the equivalent bass? What would bassists pay 25k for, even if it is an ugly piece of crap?"

Hofner Beatle bass? Been done. Same with Jamerson's P bass, Jaco's Jazz, etc etc, so I think I have the answer.

A Tony Levin Burnt Weenie Sandwich bass, accurate down to the smell. I mean, it wouldn't be playable, but you'd have to think of it as an investment.

Yeah - saw the photos of EVH and the 'new' Frankenstrat guitar ...

Strange colour, looking very bashed round the edges, authentic ciggie burns, and dodgy wiring .....

the guitar didn't look much better either.

But that's a lot of money for basically a relic'd strat ...
Does that mean if I hand over 25K I'll sound like EVH ?

Last I heard all Replicas were sold as expected...

Does the $25,000 price on the EVH Frankie include tetanus shots? That thing looks nasty, I wouldn't want to touch it without gloves.

Well, I suppose that anybody willing to drop a morbidly obese amount of cash for a guitar (that looks like it has fallen down a burning flight of stairs into a pile of nails) isn't on a budget. I buy my equipment because of the way it sounds, or the way I can make it sound. I buy my jeans because of the way they look, and now-a-days, pants also come with stains, and tears, and holes... fashion trends work their way into everything. However, I wouldn't buy a guitar that looked beat up - just like I wouldn't purchase a wrecked car.... even if it was wrecked by Hendrix after a show while Clapton was taking a nap in the back seat. But... that's just the way I think.

There are many things out there that one of sane mind would consider rediculous....how about paying $5000.00 for a purse just because it has a FENDI brand on it when you can get the exact same purse, same leather, etc....for $50.00 on any street corner in New York......value is in the eye of the beholder and many people value this type of instrument. How much would a replica of Babe Ruth's bat go for ??? If there was one special bat that he considered his best ? I am not a baseball collector but there are many out there that would pay a lot espeically if he autographed it......from the grave !!!!

My biggest jones right now is a 1970 Cuda Hemi......one problem.....they are selling for $750,000.00 !!!! and "replica" is going for 140K......which is a too much for me but not for others.

I'm with Sterling...capitalism drives this and it is good.

if you drank enough....JUST KIDDING sort of

Yea when I drink enough I just email Pete and BAM! I have ordered another EBMM, all kidding aside each individual has there likes and dislikes, and what ever makes ones boat float is cool, I would prefer to spend 25K on a butt load of EBMM before one of those things, but as Marty said it is capitalism. Now where is my beer and where the hell is Pete`s number:D

My wife hasn't (yet) paid that much for a purse, but - I'm not making this up - we once had to go to Italy so she could get a purse.

...value is in the eye of the beholder and many people value this type of instrument.

Fender, I'm sure, made money hand over fist over those early signature model Strats - the Beck, the Clapton, the SRV....you know, way back when Wham! was still good.

But yes, value is what it is and some class-action lawyer is probably out there right now, buying this EVH thing. Good for him, I say - good for him. I think we can be pretty sure that not too many working-in-a-bar guys are going to be using them to play bad renditions of "Cocaine".

(I use that song just as an example, not as an attempt to capitalize on whatever BP said above - if, in fact, he can be proved to have said anything.)

Three quarters of a million dollars for a Plymouth. Who knew? I wonder now what my 1965 slant-six Valiant would be worth.

Jack

PS: Marty, you should pressure Sterling to produce the Tony Levin Burnt Weenie Sandwich 3 string Stingray relic, complete with noxious fumes. I think it's a sure thing.

WTF?!? Wow. If I had $140K, I could have an M6. I'd in the black by a large margin and funding my retirement. $750,000? Man, what I could do with that.
