Hey guys,

Lately Ive been looking at upgrading my amp situation and have been looking at 4 channel amps, the two that seem to turn up the most are a variety of engl's as well as the marshall jvm410. I see the egnater tourmaster giving almost all the same features at a fraction of the price. I'm mainly into playing progressive metal *cough* dreamtheater *cough* and so as far as channels go Im looking for the sort of standard formula for a 4 channel:
-Ultra clean
-Mild breakup/darker clean
-Tight, compressed, sustaining solo
-Metal high gain, but still somewhat tight

Can anyone give me some feedback on the egnater or some suggestions for other 4 channel amps.

thanks in advance

I've read and heard a lot of bad things about the early egnater tourmaster.

Believe me I would like nothing better than a mark V but they are few and far between on the used market and a little pricey when new, I have a peavey triple XXX (3 channel, as far as tone goes its a poor mans triple recto ) right now which is by no means a bad amp, I'm just feeling that it doesnt quite have the subtleties that something with more channels would offer, as far as pedals go, I dont really like getting distortion from them because it doesnt seem to retain that genuine quality that you get when it comes straight from the amp but some do, which I will keep a lookout for. Thanks alot for the replies guys, Ive been reading great reviews about the tourmaster however every so often there is one that is pretty bad, Id wager that those guys got an earlier version, Ill try and stay away from the early ones if I pursue it further.

All I can think of is stuff that's pricey..... I love a Mark V!

Have you heard of or tried Diezel VH4? I've always loved the Diezel... It will do what you describe....

Mesa/Boogie Roadster!
this amp will deliver all your demanded sounds - it´s an amp for a lifetime. got mine as they were released and since then i never ever had the feeling, that i need another amp - but still have bought a few and always found out, the the Roadster is "the amp".
use channel one in tweed mode with the 50 watts and the gain turned up very high for good ac/dc like sounds, channel two set to 100 watt and fat mode for nice sparkling clean sounds, channel three vintage mode, 50 watt, tube rectifier for hard-rock rhythm sounds or turn up the gain a bit more for nice singing lead sounds and channel four 100 watt, diode rectifier modern mode for high-gain metal sounds......

for the clean and lead sounds, just kick in the internal reverb which makes it even more rounded and deeper sound.
switchable loop, switchable solo-level.....what else do you need?

btw. i prefer mine with EL34 power tubes, but that´s just my taste.

Hi there. I have played both the engl morse and Marshall jvm and they are both great amps. IMO the build quality of the engls are better than the Marshall. I had my jvm in the repair shop 4 time so I switched to engl. at the moment I have the Blackmore and its great. Played the morse a couple of monts ago and was blown way. It's got everything you are looking for.

Hope this helps

I love my Engl Invador. It's great both in the studio and especially live. It's about as versatile an amp as I could ever want. I did a two-part video on the Invader for Engl a couple of years ago. It may be worth checking out. I did my best to capture the true sound of the amp wit good mics, etc... It's sounds even more amazing live too!

Good luck in your quest! :)
