Off Topic 46 years in the making

I too wondered what all the fuss was about when I first heard Freebird, though I can't say I had such an adverse reaction as Mark did. And while it is true that the song is barely known out here in Oztralia, Sweet Home Alabama is an entirely different matter. That was a big radio hit and people go nuts when they hear the first few notes of the opening riff.

Mmm, Bee Gees, Air Supply, Livvy Neutron-Bomb...not a great record I have to admit.

Mark,

I am 46 also, and have known Free Bird since High School. I do not like to PLAY the song, but I still like to HEAR it on the radio. The song at first was an anthem to a great band, but has turned into a joke for any drunken a$$hole who thinks they're funny. Too bad...:(
 
Not a fan of Freebird either -

spent too much time in my youth hearing it over and over again - great 'air guitar' track though ....

Ah yes, TOP and Rocco. That applies to several other names that get bandied about - Stu Hamm, Jeff Berlin, Vic Wooten et al...I still don't listen to them either.:o

I'm with you, Mark!
I tried to like this song. As so many people seemed to think it was great.

But, alas, I can not. I hate it.

I'd rather listen to a Yoko Ono marathon than listen to 'Freebird" even once.

Or anything else by Lynyrd Skynyrd!

In general, I can't stand anything they ever did.

But to be fair, I never did get the whole "Southern Rock" thing.

To me, it's country with a distortion pedal.

Blows my mind that there are people still haven't heard "Free Bird". It makes me wonder what kind of killer Aussie music I've been missing out on. ("That Smell" is my favorite Skynyrd song...)

All due respect, but J.J. Cale (who wrote the song) live version with Eric Clapton will make you wet yourself. ;)

No Skynrd dissin' here - I love Sweet Home Alabama, their cover of Call me the breeze, and others. I'm just totally burned out on Freebird.

As far as great Aussie's though - Hey, what about Mark Knopfler?? One of my fav's for a very long time.
