Is a "metal" guitar necessarily going to be a cheap one? If a "metal" guitar is a low-rent guitar, I'm not interested.

Nah, I was referring to the options. As in KISS=Keep It Simple Stupid. One model, all hardtails, same layout, and just a handful of colors. Things like this to help keep costs down...but, still the end product would have the same EBMM quality that you'd expect from any other EBMM.

I can see it now:
- EBMM releases metal guitar.
- Two minutes pass.
- Forum post A) Why doesn't EBMM have a Death Metal Guitar?
- Forum post B) Why doesn't EBMM have a Agro Metal Guitar?
- Forum post C) Why doesn't EBMM have a Christian Metal guitar?
- and a personal bi-weekly favorite D) Why doesn't EBMM have a custom shop?

Nah, I couldn't see that at all. What I COULD see is a bunch of new EBMM owners that beforehand, I'd never owned an EBMM their whole life.

The simple thing it to take the AL shape and:

Put EMG's or whatever the current fave metal pickup HH set in.
Put on a diamond plate pickguard.
Black Color.

Strangely, I think that would actually look pretty metal \m/, Stealth 2H, hardtail Al... maybe called "the Al-uminum Al-loy"

Guys, I am in no way a moderator or trying to mod, but I know that the pics of other companies guitars do not make the powers-that-be happy. Just a heads up FYI.

continue the "metal guitar" discussion.

I was at rehearsal last night and I played my Albert Lee for "Heading out to the Highway". Sounded good to me. ;)

Last I read, Pepper Keenan started playing a ES335. 'On paper' that's as non-metal as you can get for a guitar, but I ain't gonna argue with the man. COC and Down pwns.

Hey, u talkin to me? NY
To me, it's the pickups and the amp you're using. The rest is a personal preference / taste (color, shape, bridge etc.). How many simple design - Benji Madden (" young guy metal ") guitars sold???

Don't get me wrong, I love all type of " metal " music but, I can take my Axis and play any metal or thrash song with it through my Line6 Flextone II HD (+ my 4 x 12 Vintage 30 custom cab).

good charlotte is as metal as picknick baskets.

once and for all, we're talking vintage 84 here, not what the radio and tv played.

Actually, all stupid details aside, the ultimate metal guitar from EBMM could simply be a 20th with a Tune-o-Matic(Original Floyd optional), a petrucci neck (unfinished!) with optional ebony boards, mahogany back, slightly different strap button placement, 2 emgs and nothing more!

imagine that finished in trans black or ruby burst!

i owned a 20th, it rocked, except the bridge was not for me. it really was one of the best EBMMs ever.

Personally, I think an Axis/EVH sounds incredibly metal out of the box.

Listen to Pagan's Mind covering the King Diamond song "At the Graves".. Jorn Viggo Lofstad gets incredibly metal sounds from that axe. Plus, there are some guest soloists (including Glen Drover from Eidolon/Megadeth/King Diamond) on that track who play more of the 'metal' brand guitars you're talking about here.. so you get a side-by-side comparison in a single song!

metals for... **** :D:p

All black AL with EMG 81/85.

Pointy enough? lol

The Axis is a metal monster and the JP is imo a very metal guitar but still looks conservative enough so you don't look a douche.

quote of the day! hahaha :D

Well the band The Human Abstract are one of my fav metal bands and they are endorsed by EBMM and play JPs and BFR JPs. Look at all the charvels and Jacksons used for thrash and 80s metal. Just a strat style body with a pointy headstock and neon colors half the time. I think my Silo can metal it up just as good as a Flying V with EMGs can. Shoot, put enough gain behind an AL with the 3 MM90s and it can sound metal!

Lovely. To be honest, I'm not sure how to moderate here. Let's try and keep the non-EBMM pics to a minimum ... and keep it friendly.

The point about the AL is spot on ... it's a unique enough shape that it would be a great platform for something like this. The Big Poppa AL, but with EMGs, etc.
