You know how when you go to family get togethers gramps sits there silent no matter what grandma is raisning hell about? He isn't doing that for any other reason but he has learned.

SO true! This year is my 20th, and I learned long ago the secret to a strong, stable marriage:

The husband is guilty. Automatically. Doesn't matter what it is, or if he did anything at all...he's still guilty.

I'm not Catholic, but you know the idea of original sin? That you're a sinner the moment you're born, even though you've done nothing?

It's like that.

It's absolutely amazing how it defuses arguments. Takes the wind right out of her sails.

How to fund your hobbies and stay married 101

Everybody's situation is different, but in case it might help someone maintain domestic bliss, I'd like to share a little tip that's saved my marriage many times.

Separate "play" money from "household" money, and make it off limits to comment or criticism. In other words, make sure both husband and wife have an allowance that they can use as they see fit.

In my case, my wife and I both work and make comparable salaries. 3/4 of our take-home pay goes into a household fund that pays for almost everything. 1/4 we get to keep for ourselves, and we each can use it for anything we want without the other party saying a word.

It's worked well for 20 years. We haven't killed each other yet, we never fight about money, and I have all the toys I want.

I've been married for 26 years.

What I've found always works, if the argument gets heated, is when I finally say "Just f*** me, you're always right, just f*** me.". But you have to say it with a little sacastic attitude. ;) :D

(I said it once in an argument and it's really become a joke with us.)

I told my wife one time when we were arguing that we wouldn't still be married if she could admit she made a mistake. Been a joke since then. Still true though:)

I really like that! Trouble with me is that my salary is so incredibly low, I can hardly spare putting away a little bit for "play" money. :( How bad is it? Let's just say that my wife works from home for 24 hours a week, and her annual salary is several thousand bucks more than my full-time salary.

She pays the big bills like mortgage, 2 vehicle notes, etc. I play the smaller bills like telephone, credit cards, etc. The rest of her money she puts away to our savings/emergency stash.

Coming up on my 9th wedding anniversary, but we've been together for 15 years.
We do the same sort of thing with our money that adouglas described. We each put a certain amount into the joint accounts to pay the bills, etc. and then have a chunk for our own accounts. It works pretty well. I couldn't tell you what she spends her money on, and she probably couldn't tell you what I do with mine.. except for the musical gear purchases, which stand out because they take up space and we have a tiny house! :)

Congrats for the Bongo!

It's always tough to find a reason to avoid long discussion with the wife! :)
Wise...

In all my married years what I learned is the wife is the last person you want to avoid.
The first person to rip you a new one.

Why? Because you deserve it.

Economics are just that. As you get older both your wife and you will tend to make more money than you did when you were younger.

How it gets spent? Both you and you wife will be wiser in those ways the older you become. IMHO

You may argue with the wife all you want to. As long as you love her you are going to be wrong. IMHO once again.

As far as what bass any kid should buy. I say Bongo 4 or 5 single H. Why? because the band will say I love the sound. You get to choose how many strings. :)

nuff said by me.

I did my "comin out" tonight, LOL The occasion was too good to pass!
My S.O. was signing for her new car, so I took her out for dinner to celebrate it.
She said how thoughtful and nice I am :D (BIG GRIN!!!)
I says, by the way, I sold my old acoustic guitar, LOL to make space for my new
bass, LOL and guess what? it's gonna be the same colour as your new car!!! :D
she says, let me guess, it's already on the way, right? I says, yeah, I had no
choice to tell you, because you ALSO work from home tomorrow, and it will
probably arrive tomorrow, you know just how bad I can be with timing, LOL
She was laughing :p

Ohhhh, I'm so bad, man! :D

Well, after a couple o'days of playing around with my new Bongo, and some
minor adjustments to the neck and action, I can say that this is one awesome
bass guitar! I found an appropriate name for it: No more Mr. Nice Guy!

Tonight's gonna be her first night out with the band, I just can't wait to plug her
and see the reactions LOL :D
