So true! So true! I'm only coming up on anniversary #6, but I sure have learned that very quickly!adouglas said:SO true! This year is my 20th, and I learned long ago the secret to a strong, stable marriage:
The husband is guilty. Automatically. Doesn't matter what it is, or if he did anything at all...he's still guilty.
I'm not Catholic, but you know the idea of original sin? That you're a sinner the moment you're born, even though you've done nothing?
It's like that.
It's absolutely amazing how it defuses arguments. Takes the wind right out of her sails.
I really like that! Trouble with me is that my salary is so incredibly low, I can hardly spare putting away a little bit for "play" money.adouglas said:Everybody's situation is different, but in case it might help someone maintain domestic bliss, I'd like to share a little tip that's saved my marriage many times.
Separate "play" money from "household" money, and make it off limits to comment or criticism. In other words, make sure both husband and wife have an allowance that they can use as they see fit.
In my case, my wife and I both work and make comparable salaries. 3/4 of our take-home pay goes into a household fund that pays for almost everything. 1/4 we get to keep for ourselves, and we each can use it for anything we want without the other party saying a word.
It's worked well for 20 years. We haven't killed each other yet, we never fight about money, and I have all the toys I want.

It's always tough to find a reason to avoid long discussion with the wife!![]()
