Guys I just got a brand new Musicman Reflex 4 HH!!! Beautiful.

Question.. I REALLY want to put a pickguard on it to personalise it. Any ideas?? will any other HH models work?

Also, I'd love to swap out the silver bridge and tuning pegs for gold ones.. where do I look to find this?

I'd love your input, cheers:D

I have to say that I never gave this any thought at all. What color did you get? That way we can see what color guard might work best.

A subtle orange burst, rosewood neck, birds eye maple fretboard. I wanna match it all in gold now and custom make a pick guard.

Hmmmm does the headstock happen to say 25th anniversary? If so, as I suspect, you have better than a reflex. Next question would be, "Why the heck do you want to cover that amazing finish?"

It's a custom reflex. To answer your second question, I want my bass to reflect my personality and I just think gold with a pickguard (small) would look better. I'll upload a pic once I have finished. I'm after something less generic.

OK now you HAVE to post a pic. The only custom Reflex that were made, AFAIK were for Randy Jackson, and our own Jack the Bovine man. Now, are you Mr. Jackson?

Okay, I'll play. If you were able to get a "custom" reflex, why didn't you simply get gold hardware in the first place?

Or, are you saying that you had it refinished?

You can't order hardware from EB/MM, so your only option would be to have the bridge and tuners replated.

As for the pickguard, nothing currently made by EB/MM will fit. So, you're going to have to design something and have it custom made.

Of course, the chance that you have a birdseye maple fretboard on a rosewood neck is nil. So, I'm thinking we won't ever be seeing pictures of this custom reflex.

Where did You bought that reflex anyway?

However, ...I think that's impossible to put properly a pick guard on reflex bass, 'cause position of knobs and buttons are on the way where PG should be screwed on!

I'm gonna get creative with the type of pick guard I design.. something small and not near the buttons. I really like the finish on this neck, they did a really stella job. BTW - there is another version on this bass floating around now which has the same neck. The other colour they sent me wasn't quite what I was wanting (a creme brulee metallic copper color.. with a subtle burst too) so they made this orange version which is my fav colour. I've very happy with the result but the other one did have it's charm too. But like I was suggesting, I would like to personalise further.

I wouldn't want to put holes in the top but if you have to have a guard google wd pickguards and give them a call. They'll tell you what they need to make your guard.

I found a place called quick guards . com .. gonna design a pick guard now and make it happen. I'm not worried about a few holes anyway, it will be fine.

Just use two sided tape, man. No one has to be hurt in the process. :D

I think you have to very careful ... anything other than stock is usually "Fightin' Words" around here.... j/k. I know I for one have also thought about throwing a guard on a Reflex..... not to cover up the finish.... and certainly not to protect against damage from the pick. I am actually use to the spacing from the body and the fretboard on my Stingray and Sterling... when you take that out of the equation slapping may take some time to get accustomed too (I never posted about it because I was afraid of getting the "Fix your bad technique" speech) I actually think having one custom made like the Axis Pickguard would be neat.

If you decide to go with a solid one, you can always attach with double sided tape in case you don't like and to not damage the nice top on the bass. But if you like it and you like your top you can always do a clear pickguard. Don't worry man, I'm with you... personalize if it makes you happy, it's still going to sound like a great bass. Let us know if you come up with something. Cheers!

Thanks, however I'm pretty confident in what I want. Tis late here so I need to sleep, gonna track down gold hardware tomorrow and mock up the pickguard. I'll try an axis too.. Did see that somewhere else on here! BUT I think it's too big.
