It's just a stick on, so it can always be taken off. It looks like there may be some finger wear around the strings on the finish, which is why I actually tend to LIKE having a pickguard there to protect it.
It is a nice color, but not enough nicer than Lava Pearl for me to be interested. Also, being in Australia, it's just a non starter.
Someone will end up with a great bass though.
