Thou shall never lose interest in Dream Theater!!!!!! :)

Hmmm...well now, if the Bible ACTUALLY said that, I might actually believe it had some credibility! ;)

Yeah l know, haha, l'm quite prepared for the bashing l'll more than likely receive. INCOMING!!!!!!!!!:p

Scott.

See...this is the problem with some fans...

If you lost interest, then (pardon the pun) it's your loss :D I will still support DT all the way. I did the same thing with Metallica, Megadeth, Queensryche, etc...when some fans stopped listening, I kept on going. When they got bashed, I stuck by them as a fan. I'm not saying YOU have to do that, it's just what I did.

I fiinally got to listen to the track earlier. I like it, but to me James and Jordan are underutilised - it seems to be more TOT rather than Octavarium or SDOIT - I'm really looking forward to it and it's true that you can't please everyone.......but I hope the CD isn't as one dimensional (can't believe I'm even thinking that about DT!).

I always think though that James' solo album was great and what it would be like if he was left to right the lyrics and melodies solely rather than being dictated to......

Still my fave band (aside from Van Halen - but I've pretty much given up there LOL!)

Keep in mind that this is one of the shorter tracks on the album, so I'm sure that James and Jordan will be all over the place on all the other tracks.

I'm not bashing them in anyway, it's their band, they can release whatever they want, it doesn't worry me in the least, l just don't dig their newer stuff, hey l've listened to it all and there's a couple of things l dig on the newer stuff. But l'm not saying they should write another Images and words (like some fans say they should) cause if l wanted to listen to Images and words, that's what l'd listen to, l'm just getting older and l just don't dig that whole Mesa Boogie big metal sound anymore. I'm more of a laid back melodic kinda guitar play. But man can Petrucci still melt your face with some of those leads he plays.

Please don't misinterpretation my intentions, l'm not here to rain on anyone's parade, i'd thought l'd say my piece about their music, cause really not everyone is gonna dig it.

Peace everyone.

Scott.

I think they will be. Mike Portnoy said the following about the album; "a DT album with 'A Change of Seasons', 'Octavarium', 'Learning to Live', 'Pull Me Under' and 'The Glass Prison'....all on one album..." Jordan Rudess later added, "...We've been entering into the Gothic domain quite a bit on this album.

It's all good Scott. I don't think anyone should have to apologize for liking or not liking something. Music either moves you or it doesn't, that's why there is such a variety of music choices in the world.

Gothic domain? Wow...maybe this track is the most "mainstream" of the album...which would explain why Roadrunner wants everyone to hear it first...they wanna make their money. Trying to draw new fans will do that...

I like it. The beginning of the track confuses me, though. It sounds like guitar, but I it has an air of synth about it...since when has JP used a Phaser sound that intense? He usually uses a more subtle approach to effects...

We'll see soon.

Lol - I'm loving that the 8 1/2 minute single is one of the shorter tracks...quality!

I can't wait for the album - I really didn't want to listen to anything until I had the CD in my mits, but goddamn I couldn't resist! LOL!

Just downloaded it and boy was it slow!

Here are a few other locations I uploaded it to:

Thanks Pete.........................

I guess I'm not as alone as I thought. I didn't like Systematic Chaos - and I don't care for the new tune either. Octavarium was the last album I really connected with. I REALLY loved IAW, SFAM, SDOIT, and TOT. I even liked Infinity. I also find it interesting that Octavarium was the last album with the old label. I really hope they're not getting pushed around by their new label. :(

No, you're not the only one. 6doit was a masterpiece, but after that the only album I've liked at all is Octavarium.

I don't actually think its Petrucci. I believe that's John Myung on his Bongo 6.

I just gotta comment... JM no input????!!!! JM brings in a lot of guitar riffs and melody ideas... just because it is played on a guitar (Bohemian Rhapsody heavy riff) doesn't mean the guitar player wrote it. Instrumentally, DT is a collaborative effort with JP and MP acting as mediators because they are the most into that. The studio footage released throughout the years demonstrates that pretty plainly...

As for this track.. it's one track. It's not my favorite DT song ever, but I like a lot of things about it.

I'm always amazed that people put 8V in the same kind of context as TOT and SC. It's way more varied and goes from heavy to pop and prog, with differing kinds of elements of each. I think it's their best album since Awake, but that includes the context of having really liked every album before it. But 8V is the most IAWish just because it has a surrounded like track, a Learning To Live type track etc.

SC was great, but it had a lot of filler moments... the slow song was way too long with no real development happening, and the two heaviest tracks ... well, it really only needed one of them it seems to me. But, I'm not complaining. I listen to SC a lot.

I'll reserve any judgment of the new album until I hear it because this is just one track that happens to be in a SC type vein. Like MP said... there is supposed to be a lot of different kinds of songs on it. It should be fun.
