I'm 56. I've been playing guitar since I was seven-years-old.........much longer than most of you are old. I'm not bragging, I'm complaining. lol

After I got discharged from the Navy, I sang and played "top-40" music for a living from 1973 through 1979. Trying (and failing) to learn Luke's solo on "Hold The Line" made me realize that I'd better get an education and start looking for a "regular job".
I told Luke that he was partially responsible for me having the great job that I now have when I saw him in Cleveland a couple months ago and he kinda looked at me like I was half crazy. haha
True story though. (I'm still kicking myself for not asking him for his autograph. DOH!)
BTW, did I mention that Luke is a pretty cool guy.

For those of you who may not know, playing music for a living will definitely spoil you for any other line of work.

I have an "equivalent" Electrical Engineering degree.........which along with about $6 will buy me a new set of guitar strings. I work for the local electrical utility as a protective relay programmer and technician. When your lights go out, I'm doing my job, when your lights come back on, that's my job too. :D

I'm 23 years old. I'm a senior in college trying to get a double major in Psychology and Sociology. I am also trying to get a minor in Statistics.

My dream is to eventually get somewhere with music but I am trying to get a back up plan first.

I'm 38 and am a Service Manager working for a massive IT firm for a massive financial instituation........

....and I'm a semi-pro musician playing 2-3 times a week in a cover's band, an 80's tribute, a Bon Jovi tribute and a Duran Duran tribute........

....I know it's sad - but unfortunately there isn't much call for a Dream Theater tribute otherwise I'd be doing that as well! ;o)

28 years in the meter and picking up pace :p.

Great stories here how ones hobby has become their occupation, especially in the music branch (I'm somewhat jealous to You guys ).

I make my living as a pro-athlete (track&field). I've got ~5 good years left in my career, then it's time to retire and finish up university studies (so that I can continue financing my hobby as a "Ball" player ;)).

I'm 53, a Senior Network Engineer for Verizon Business in the Detroit Area. I've been playing guitar off and on since I first saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 1964. I have a small home studio with some cool stuff, and I'm addicted to my JP6 BFR! I played in bands in the 70's and was in a band that broke up in an NYC studio. :) That was fun! I played in various local (VA Beach, Northern VA) bands in the 80's and early 90's until my son was born, then I figured it was time to stop for a bit. I got back into it about 8 years ago, though I no longer gig. I still love to play guitar, though.

I'm 28 and I'm a resident in a hospital here in the Netherlands, just starting my final year of medschool.
Have been playing since I was 9, but sold every guitar-related item I had when I got sick 2 years ago. Picked up up a beat up strat this summer and a Roland VG-99 and started playing again, but that guitar just plain sucks, so....

THIS SUNDAY I'LL GET MY FIRST EBMM :). A silo to be more specific.
