36 years and I own a little guitar shop w/repair for gtr+tube amps.
I play in three bands also on a 2 gigs a week basis and my girl hates me for that.
Not enough I found a way explaining her why I need so many guitars.
Don´t ask me it´s a secret (and you have to be over18 :))) Nooooooo

Nice to see that all of you or most are a little older. Makes my day

OK, usually I just lurk, but ever sisce BP told us lurkers to jump in....I have been thinking about it, so I will start here.
I'm almost 34, and for the last few years I have been playing the terribly fun game of watching my jobs get shipped over-seas. First I was an oscillator design engineer (went to China), then I turned to a life of IT security (went to India), now I am serving my apprentice time to become a real estate appraiser....they can't ship an entire country and all of its houses to china, right?

I have a 5 year old son who is totally cool, and usually kicks my butt with his "power ranger" moves :)

I have a fully loaded JP7 and a small collection of custom 7 string guitars.
nice to meet everyone

Welcome Shad !

Sorry to hear about those jobs. Hopefully your appraiser gig won't lose out to automated valuation technology. You know the big money is pushing things that way.. to the detriment of the industry.

At least you'll know some good Power Rangers moves!

And it was going so well.....

After 13 years of higher education I caved in and became a lawyer. Sorry. Let the jokes begin! You can see my goofy @$$ at http://www.sofiolaw.com.

I'm 38 years old, married for 5 years to a wonderful woman, One daughter who is 2, and another child coming 8/17/05, one yellow lab, who is 4. I am also a stay-at-home dad while mom goes off to work to pay the bills.

I have been playing the guitar on and off (mostly off) since I was ten. Then I heard Joe Satriani on the radio in 1988 and I have not been responsible with my G.A.S. ever since. Currently playing my EBMM Axis Honeyburst a lot and also my ridiculous glow-in-the dark JP too (you can see it in the "Petrucci and Poppa" thread, page 2, post #27).

I'm verry happy someone resurrected this thread for those of us who sort of caught on here afterwards. Thank you! It has been quite insightful to get to know more about other members.

And I know adding a lawyer to the mix drops the average I.Q. quite a bit, and for that, I apologize.

Hey Now,

I'm 36 yrs old and have been playing since I was eleven. I started on a Tokai TST-56 strat copy (which I still have) and moved through all the major brands until I came across my 1993 EBMM EVH. That guitar has become my workhorse since the day I purchased it.

This site is great and the lst night's Petrucci Q & A was special.

Hopefully, I can lose the "lurker" tag and become a full fledged contributor to this outstanding forum of EBMM addicts :D :D

Yeah, we were talking about the automated appraisal issue....and (fingers crossed) supposedly, they will not be used for mortgages by banks, but by smaller credit outfits mostly doing drive by refi's....only time will tell I guess? If everything fails on me again....I can always be a power ranger trainer with my son :)

Oh yeah....I'm also a motorcycle nut. If i'm not out riding, I am watching MOTOGP or SBK on tv...or playing MOTOGP2 on xbox.

I'm 25 and I'm a Microbiologist/Biochemist. I've been playing guitar since I was 15 yrs old with a long break during univeristy. I currentlly have a sparkly Axis Sport and a Godin LGX-SA both guitars absolutely rock!

My other passions are downhill skiing (got to make the most out of those long Canadian winters) and a very recently discovered one: whitewater kayak.

Oh... I'm also part of that small portion of the world's population that is left handed, hence my guitars are leftys... :D

29 years old. on guitar since age 8.

back home I repaired vintage and new fountain pens (even edited a book on the topic that maybe a dozen people bought). live in Japan where my wife is working at a drug manufacturing company (that I'm not allowed to name for contractual reasons) training them in western clynical trial methods. since I'm over just as a spouse, I can't actually have a job anywhere, but I've had a lot of time to work with my photography and practice guitar when the downstairs neighbors are at work.

and I've been learning a lot about cooking.

Well since this is drifting into what our hobbies are -I practice martial arts - specifically jiu-jitsu.

Ripley - you repaired fountain pens? I used to collect FPs-my only vintage pens though are two Parker 51s (aerometrics).

the rest of My collection is two Platinum pens, 1 Namiki Vanishing point, 2 Waterman Carenes and one Sheaffer Targa.

Jiu jitsu is pretty good stuff. I got into it a couple of years ago after some seriously long training in tae kwon do. I've been doing a lot of MMA for the past few years now. A lot different...

To stay on topic:

26 years old, seismic technician (most people end up asking me what this is, so I'll go ahead and explain...)

I set up seismographs to measure explosions. I work for a explosives demolition contractor.

I am a 25 year old Computer Technician who has had a guitar in my hands since I was 3 years old. I always dabbled with it and never really took it too serious. Once I got in High School I really became serious and staretd playing all the time and really forcing myself to play.
I now play on a regular basis at my Chuch (twice a week)... I love it!

severly off topic but...:

are your parkers still functioning? and if so have you had to replace the resiviors yet? and is your Namiki the old style with the faceted plastic body? (those are in extreme demand over here after they started making the barrels out of brass....)

hi Rip, yes the Parkers are still functioning - not sure what the resivior is though - is that the black bladder with the plate on it?

The Namiki is the old style plastic one. Why are those in such high demand? The lighter weight?

Hey Beej - yeah I am a pen nerd - but one with a black belt :p

Ok....sounds like this thread is going to continue....GREAT!

My name is obviously Mike, and I'll be 39 tomorrow. I've been playing since age 6, but given how little I actually practice, I'm not very good. I work for a well known computer company and have worked there for the past 17 years (pssst...why are we all reluctant to say the name of the company we work for? It's not like most of us work for the CIA or anything. ) I've spent most of my career as a microprocessor product engineer.

Speaking of late starts, I got my very first guitar (a Luke! <g>) at 38. :)

I'm now 40, trying to sell the Luke (and hoping I won't regret it) but enjoying my Axis Super Sport.

My occupation is real estate, formerly commercial banking, formerly computer related (consulting, networking, sales, etc.). I'm also a Mac nut but use Windows at the office and for World of Warcraft, which by the way is a large reason why I'm still a "newb" when it comes to guitars.

I'm also a former motorcycle nut but had to give it up after going down on the freeway at 100 mph. I'll never forget the look on my wife's face when she saw me in the ER...

What got me started with the guitar (i.e. my influences): Tom Scholz, Trevor Rabin, and Steve Lukather. There are other guitarists and musicians I enjoy, but for some reason, these were the ones who made me feel like picking up a guitar and playing.
