tvanveen,

I'm going to the Dweezil Zappa show 2/24. Thanks for the link.

As for my decision about the AL models, I'm not really wanting a 'Tele' sound, even though that's the guitar I mostly play right now. I'm wanting something different from the same old thing.
That's why I'm leaning in the P90 direction. btw, I've been working on my taxes this week and I may be closer to ordering my AL sooner than I thought. If I can just figure out which model and what color...

Shnook - I tried sending you a message offline, but I think your spamblocker blocked me...anyway, if you want to try my AL's out while you're in the area you're welcome to.

peter71,

Go to pollstar.com and do a search for Lisa Loeb. There you'll find the dates for the Dweezil and Lisa tour. From what I'm gathering Dweezil will be performing some of his songs and a few of Frank's, along with playing with Lisa. It's not a *full on* Dweezil show, but it's more than we've seen of him since the days of Z.
He's been playing a sweet blue sparkle Albert Lee EBMM for a while too. Seems to be his main guitar at the moment.

tvanveen,

I sent you a PM in reply to yours. I did get it. Check your PM and see if mine came through. I've very interested if time is on my side. I'll get back with you soon as I figure out what my schedule is gonna look like. Thanks!

Peter,

I'm a big AL fan as well and I just got a new one no less than a week ago. I absolutely love this guitar and think it has to be the best feeling neck I've ever felt. If you get one you'll be surprized to find how versatile the guitar is. Not only country picking of course but blues and jazz as well. Mine is very light and balanced. In my opinion you can't go wrong or better. This is the second one I've owned. The first I sold to tvanveen and as you might already know he likes the model too. Good luck and I hope you get what you want!

Yep, Dweezil can be seen playing his Custom Blue Sparkle Albert Lee model on the Dweezil and Lisa cooking show on the Food Network Friday nights at 10:00 PM. Although, I don't think cooking is exclusive to women. Most of the featured chefs on the Food Network are men. A cool show if you like guitars and food.

I can't believe no one mentioned this before.

I hope not, I do all the Thanksgiving and Xmas cooking 'round here!

Good to here from you again tvanveen! My AL came by the way and it is great. Wanting one with P90's now! When will the madness end??? Let me compliment you on the beautiful photo of your P90 AL. Absolutely terrific! EB could certainly use your talents for their color chart. Take care!

Thanks...I actually hesitated on posting the pics after busting on EB for their color chart. My pics aren't that good either, I actually considered reshooting them. Then again, I'm a people shooter.

What a great topic. We are talking about Albert Lee guitars, which I am totally convinced I am going to get, Dweezil Zappa, who I think is great, Lisa Loeb, who I also think is great, and cooking! (See page one fat comment)

Thank you all for your great comments and hopefully when I finally get my AL, I will show it to you all!

peter71,

I agree, I'm digging this little thread! I've been thinking about and researching the AL since around this time last year, but seeing Dweezil with his sparkly AL every week on the Dweezil and Lisa show as pushed me to the edge of wanting one badly. I too have a Peavey Wiggy, so I'm thinking an AL will just add to the 'Jetson' vibe I've got going anyway! :D

Hello Guys,

Thanks for this great topic. I dig my albert Lee's too.
I have a black MM90's trem version and a regular version in vintage sunburst. I just replaced the shell pickguard for a creme guard and it turned out cool i think.

I had to get used to the looks at first but i think it's great now and it defenately has some sort of classic vibe to it.

I'm a big fan of the man himself aswell. He's not so familiar with a lot of people but he's played with so many people and you wouldn't believe the amount of session work he did and still does.

Shnook ~

How do you like the Wiggy? My Tech 21 TM-10 is the only solid state amp I currently own, but it's a great sounding little box, but I haven't really been wowed by the sound of Peavey solid state amps in the past... Unfortunately I've never had an opportunity to try a Wiggy - no one around here carries them. They're well styled to complement an AL tho' (I'm sure that's what Dweezil was thinking ;) )...

Jimi D,

I personally love the Wiggy, but it's not an amp for everyone. I guess a lot of it depends on what kind of sound your going for and what guitars your using. It's a great blues, country, jazz, or classic rock amp. However, high gain or Nu Metal tones are no where to be found. For me, the amp really shines when used with single coil guitars. Right now, my main guitar is a modded and hot rodded 50's Classic Tele, and the Wiggy is a great match for it all the way around. However, I've not really found too many useful tones with humbuckers other than a some killer lead tones. I can get some pretty cool Blues Saraceno like tones with my Wolfgangs, but I'm not really finding a setting that has a great rhythm and lead tone. Not yet at least, and to be honest, I haven't spent much time trying.

Having said that, let me tell you that the amp has tons of tones and sounds lurking around in it. I've had my Wiggy for nearly two years now, and I'm still finding cool settings. It's very sensitive to pickups, volume, and pick attack. The amp can do a lot, and if you sit with it long enough you can find a usable tone for just about any mood needed. It just takes some time to figure out what does what, but once you do you can make up your own tone menu.

It doesn't have reverb, but I've found that to almost be a good thing. I've been using a Line 6 DL4 unit and with the Tube Echo setting on that thru the Wiggy, I can get some really cool 'vintage Fender' tones. That's where I'm at right now, but 6 months ago I was digging something else with it. For my use, the Wiggy sounds best clean, and man it has some sweet clean tones.

I'm a tube amp person too. But being such a fan of Dweezil, I had to get the amp a try. I did and I have no regrets. It takes a little while to get used to, but if your adventurous about sounds, the Wiggy is a tone playground. It's LOUD too. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions let me know. I'm a big fan of this amp, but it's kind of hard to explain sometimes.

Thanks Shnook... I appreciate the tone review... I'd really like to try a Wiggy at some point - I know my wife would love it as an alternative to my Deluxe Reverb as a practice amp in our living space, but I'm just not willing to drop that kind of money on an amp I've never played. That and the persistent (if subdued) rumours of a "tube Wiggy" keep me from pulling the trigger just yet... In the mean time, I'm eager to test drive the new Peavey JSX, and might pull the trigger on a Carvin Tone Navigator (Frank Gambale's new signature preamp - which is also an all solid state design) to keep me amused in the near future...

I too was looking forward to the tubed Wiggy, but alas, it's not meant to be. They have a few working proto models of it, Dweezil even played on live and on On The Spot for a while, but Peavey maintains that it will cost too much to produce. I see their point, but I'm still bummed about it. I had been saving a little money here and there for one, but that money is now in the 'Albert Lee' pot. The JSX does seem like a cool amp. The Triple XXX sounds nice, but it's not really the kind of amp I need for what I do. The JSX seems to be a good blend between high gain and 'classic' tones. I have a feeling it's gonna be a really good seller for Peavey.

That looks nice. It's a fancy listing for someone with a zero feedback, though. Maybe they just have advanced computer skills, but...
