Hey everyone,

Here's a pic of an Albert Lee neck that was rejected by a customer in Canada. Is this a nice neck? Consensus, please...

Oh boy....

Beth, that was not intended towards you either.

I think the neck looks just fine, but, that debate was a long drawn out one. I would take it....that's me.

I dunno, I can definitely appreciate the beauty of bird's eye maple, but IMHO, I kinda think it looks like chickenpox on nice smooth skin...

That looks perfectly fine to me. Seems to have its own character compared to some necks with TONS of birdseye (NOT that there is ANYTHING wrong with that). To me it actually looks like music is written on the back of the neck. Looks pretty damn cool to me. I have a Silo with NO birdseye, and I DONT CARE, even paying 1500 for it. I dont care about that either. I FREAKIN LOVE the thing to death. I would spend even more if I had to without the birdseye. But I DO like the birdesye a lot :D .

I like figured Maple as much as anyone but...

I'm musician first, a nitpicky bastard second. :)

If it played well and sounded good, I'd keep it. It would be fine by me. I mean c'mon, it's the back of the neck. Your hand is supposed to be covering most of that the majority of the time anyway. ;)

It's a fairly plain maple neck with the hint of birdseye here and there, but i would have taken the neck myself, cause i'm sure that it plays like butter.

On behalf of my fellow canucks ... I apologize (we're good at that).

Looks like a great neck to me. Would take it in a heartbeat.

Beth,
this is a very nice, natural looking neck everyone of us would appreciate - but I have to admit, if the customer explicitly ordered birdseye maple, I do understand him.

Looks very nice to me!

When he complained about the lack of birdseye, I thought it was the fretboard side he didn't like!

the fretboard is the same remember we use the same block of wood for both neck and fretboard

Oh! I understand that. I was just guessing that the other side of the neck was more plain, and therefore the complaint.
Who cares what the back of the neck looks like!? Nobody sees it. As long as there isn't a giant knot of termite sticking out of it, I'm happy!

Nothing wrong with it to my eyes. If you guys replace it and send a new one, you can always through that on a body and send it to me to get it off the shelf. Not all Canadians are that fussy ;)

speaking as one who has special ordered 4 eb's (3 lukes,1 albert)...

FWIW that one has a lot LESS birdseye than all of them.

ok....to kick the proverbial dead horse yet again or let's now use the phrase...to punch a bird in the eye....(hehehe).....

THE NECK IS LUCK OF THE DRAW....YOU CANNOT SPECIAL ORDER THE NECK!!!! LUCK OF THE DRAW! LUCK OF THE DRAW! IT IS NOT, AND I REPEAT, NOT AN OPTION!!!

BTW, this was not intended for any one particular person as I used that quote to show how much it is coming up that the neck is an option, which of course, IT IS NOT!!

Hey K
thats fine This guy represented and tortured all of us at eb claiming no birdseye. I think it is a pretty good neck...Do you guys think that this neck is so sub par that you insist on talking to me after losing your cool with brian?

I don't see how you could lose your cool with Brian. He is such a super cool dude.

I don't see how......just don't see it.....am I blind??!?!......is it true?.....you can lose your eyesight if you play....oh....never mind.

I simply don't get it. Here is somewhat of a story for all in EBMM land that don't know.

I had one of my Pets damaged....severely! The neck was split in half and peeps on this forum will tell you. That neck had some of the finest bird's eye and flame in it that I have seen....not the best, but very very nice. Of course, I could care less....the necks broken. I sent it in to Jon for a replacement. Well, I got it done along with the "pimp" job. I waited about 2 weeks or so. No big deal....I want it done right and I know Jon is not going to rush me out the door....and it arrives finally! I am sooooo happy because this is my work horse. My other two JP's kept me going just fine, but this was just special to me. I took it out of the case, (put the dog in lock up) and ran upstairs to plug her in. She plays like butter and sounded wonderful. I spent up to 6 hours playing that axe that day. I continued to play it for weeks on end.....I was playing and playing and playing. Finally, I had to give her a bath. I noticed that this neck was not as "appealing" as my other one. Did it make me mad? No. Did I demand to talk to Big Poppa about it? No. Cuss out Customer Service? No. I smiled because my guitar was fixed and I could play. See, I got the "Luck of the draw" just like we all do. I paid for the neck...should I have been given the option of picking out my wood? No. Because it is NOT an option! I care about how it plays.....and she plays great! THANKS YET AGAIN EBMM, JON, and BIG POPPA!
This is why I get EBMM....because of how great they play.....
