The second set starts out with Al playing keys on the first 3 tunes. 2 solo piano and one with the band...then he picked up my honeyburst Albert...(wait for it) and played it for the entire 2nd set!! Might be just that I was in awe of the whole spectacle but he seemed more energized and was definitely ripping more tasty, and longer solos in the second set.

That is just incredible!

You know, it seems from everything I've heard about Albert, and from interviews and such, he seems not only really humble and down-to-earth but also really eager to please. It's possible he really picked up on your excitment over him playing your guitar, and that's part of what energized him. And that, of course, led to a more enjoyable experience for everybody. Classic positive feedback network in action.

Then again, who doesn't like playing with somebody else's balls? :D He's only human, you know.

Beej, wanna fly to SF a coupel days early and catch AL in Sac, then SM 2 days later??

I just picked up an old Albert instructional video from Hal Leonard. It must predate his EBMM signature model because there's not one to be found on the video. (Although Biff does sit in for one little number!)

Albert is soooooo polite on the video, I almost felt like he didn't completely kick my ass! ;)

I sure hope he logs on here and says hello. I am definitely going to buy one of his guitars one day, if Biff stops making all these limited time must-have guitars that preemp my AL cash! :D

Yeah, it was an amazing night. Albert Lee is beyond accomodating to his fans and is just incredible to see play on-stage. Keith and I were literally 5 feet in front of the man watching and being schooled at the same time. Those freakin' double-stop licks kill me !!!!!

My pics will be up sometime tomorrow and I will continue with the story.

So he poses for a couple of quick pix with me and pug, then takes the guitar on the stage and tunes her up and puts it next to his pink one and the black Les Paul.

That's a great story! How cool for Albert to do that.
He's great to talk to isn't he? - he's got no airs and graces about him and if he's got the time he'll spend time chewing the fat with ya!
When I met him on tour with Hogans Heros in Menai (North Wales)we had such a cool conversation about my Black Cherry burst AL and he was eagerly showing it to his bass player and asking me questions about it. I wish he would have played mine!!

As a slight hijack - I had a great instructional Albert Lee DVD bought for me as a Xmas present from my son.
It's in the hot licks series and has Steve Trovato demonstrating his licks.
So in my last week of Xmas/New Years leave (I had 5 weeks off - well how else was I able to do the calendar!! ) I ploughed through the DVD.
Got all the licks sorted, then played the backing track to practice them
- shoot there's no room for errors - how does he keep up that level of picking all night !!!
My youngest son bought me an EVH Hotlicks dvd played by Steve Bull so hopefully by the end of theyear, Spud will be playing in the style of Albert Van Lee ;)

No question it was a fun night. My face hurt from smiling so much.
Can't wait to see Pug's pix.
During the show, I couldn't help but think of all the people Sterling knows both in and out of the music biz, he named his son Casey -- Casey "Lee" Ball.

That says something.

Hey Pug, please don't soak up ALL the Albert mojo.

Sorry for the quality of the images, but it's late and I'm tired. I will post the rest on my photobucket page and paste a quick link for anyone who wants to check it out. I have some sweet pics of Albert's '58 Les Paul Custom, his rig for the two nights, his pinkburst AL and some more live shots.

Keith, I have doubles of these pics so I am going to send them out to you tomorrow.

Enjoy folks
