Keith, that's terrible! I hope the guitar comes back and the thief is prosecuted.

Thanks Pete I hope so too.

Hope you get it back Keith. The Craigslist photo looks like an Olive Green L3. I'm also wondering why if the Perps tried to sell a Stolen Guitar to Guitar Center. Guitar Center knew it was Stolen and did not confinscate
the guitar? Did they get a description and Lic. plate # and call 911. ??

When they perp tried to sell it to GC it was not officially stolen at that point GC went above and beyond to contact me and well in the short time between me calling them back the dude split. And yes they had helpful information. They cannot just confiscate guitars, before they called I assummed it was stilll lost in some warehouse for USPS.

I don't understand something. When I have shipped guitars worth more than $500 with a scanned tracking, it automatically requires a signature. Did the sender not spend the 75 cents on tracking?

In any case, I hope you get it back, Keith. You don't deserve this crap.

Jack thanks not the buyers issue on shipping I did what I normally do and well this returning with no notice and signiture stuff is BS!!!!! USPS will not even return my phone calls now.

I believe Keith was saying the pic in the ad wasnt the guitar that was being solicited on CL. Price seemed rather fishy also for a brand new LIII

Exactly thanks again Steve for the intel , I must remember to search uner EB as well as MM!

So, did you sell the guitar, ship it, and it was returned back to your home (with no notification)....is that right? Someone nabbed ut from the porch?

you said you've learned a lesson, what is that lesson? I'm sure a few of us can benefit from it as well.

Why is the pictured CL ad an Olive Green guitar, when your's is black? I'm not following how that is the thief.

Sorry to hear about this.

You are correct sold, shipped and for some reason that USPS has never explained not delivered and then returned no notification and evidently someone stole it off the front porch, the thief is using fake pics for some reason, the one in the ad was taken from an ebay ad and the ones he sent me when I inquired about my stolen guitar were from Guitar Center Platinum website and from The Perfect Guitars website, the one from TPG still had the watermark!

I have been told the person listing it on CL is not a nice person and has a lengthy rap sheet.

Lesson learned many, never ever send anything USPS, they are lazy and do not want to help in any manner, I had one hang up om stating it was not her job to help me, this was a customer service rep.

Be happy with what you have, dont let gas take over!

Sell on your own terms, though this was not an issue on this guitar but a couple before it it was.

No paypal they dont help either and take too much.

If in doubt let the authorities help, should have filed a police report weeks earlier, would have the guitar back if I did.

Bottom line I most likely will not ever get it back, and I am out a great guitar and still owe a new one to the buyer so out alot of money on this, which goes back too be happy withwhat you have:)

I'm sure we all sympathize that some tool made off with your guitar and USPS is certainly to blame for the matter. However, this stuff happens with all 3 major carriers. I've heard of items being delivered back to people because they mistakenly left an old shipping label on a reused box. It happens and for many reasons. I've shipped about 5 guitars via USPS and I find they take the best care of your stuff.

The reason USPS won't help you is because how are they supposed to know what exactly what was in the box? You can claim there were gold bars or a rolex in there. The problem is, it doesn't sound like you declared the items value to USPS at time of shipping which would have been done by insuring the package. It's a good lesson to all that it's worth every penny to insure any valuable for new sale cost + a few hundred to make sure you get your shipping money back + any other charges.

Sorry about your guitar dude, but always insure a valuable...even if it takes out of your profit on the sale.

USPS only insures up to a certain smaller amount while the other carriers can insure for as much as you like (although you will pay for it).

Surely if you know who has the guitar it can't be too hard for the police to get it back from them?

Keep in mind that usps only lost 5.2 billion dollars last quarter.

We ship absolutely nothing via usps....private companies just are som much quicker, better tracking and better track record.

And no Jack Im not getting political......

i had a very bad experience with USPS a few year ago when i bought a used SILO 20TH on this forum
and promiss me that never use them again
the delivery time was 1 month and no tracking because when they ship overseas the French carrier (they are more bad than usps ...!!!) doesn't have the same tracking number

i prefer to pay more and use FEDEX OR UPS i never have one problem and they have a very good tracking

Same thing at the store I used to work for. Small and cheap stuff, sure, but anything of value, we never used any national postal service. They all have the same problems - crappy customer service, crappy tracking, higher theft and damage rates, lower insurance/payout rates. I know most folk try to keep costs down when shipping guitars, particularly overseas, and it's still a pretty small risk, but these things do happen. Alas, it's not the first and it won't be the last. It just a shame this story happened to one of our own, and a such a stalwort of the forum too.

Yeah, I'd have to have to delete one of YOUR posts! :)

Same here. When I bought my Silo Special from Slav the shipping and import duty cost almost as much as the guitar! But it was still cheaper than I could buy used here, it arrived safe and sound, on the right day, within an hour of the time they said it would, and if anything had happened I knew I was insured for the declared value of the guitar. As I said above, the risk going with USPS (Chronopost in France) is not enormous but it is higher. It wasn't one I was willing to take.

It's worth taking the risk with a most serious carrier ;)

I've been juggling with the shipping / insurance costs and I'm gonna use that money towards a plane ticket, and bring "one" back & visit my family at the same time.
Yeah I know this won't help in Keith's situation but - that's what I'm gonna do.

Keith any update? I seriously hope you will recover the guitar. That craiglist ads seems so fishy and the guy so easy to track, I hope the police can do something for you. In France most of the time they don't give a ****. My son had is bicycle stolen and nothing happen, I think they didn't even try to locate it.

Not much to update, the perp has gone silent, never responded to my last email and stood the police up. He is backed into a corner on selling, only choices he has are Craigs List or Evil Bay, Guitar Center and other local guitar shops know it is stolen as well it is on the pawn shop list as stolen. So right now in a holding pattern.

A big issue is while we know this is the dude with the stolen guitar, he will not reveal the serial number or use actual pictures, if I or anyone could get an email from him with the actual serial number it would help.

Will update if anything changes.

Well finally some good news and well I am amazed. The police have recovered the guitar and I get it back on Wednesday, do not know details on the hows and whys but just glad to get it back and end this mess.

Thanks to all for reading, tips and support, hopefully it is in the same condition as it was when I shipped it.
