You hit the nail on the head!

When the 20th Silo was first introduced, I thought it was a beautiful instrument, but I just couldn't get past the color. I prefer a 22-fret neck, and the fact that the 20th has 24 frets was also an obstacle. I came very, very close to ordering one, but ultimately what held me back was that I couldn't get it in a different color. (I would have gone for Pacific Blue Burst.)

However, one day, I walked into my local dealer, and he happened to have one hanging on the wall, which was a great surprise to me as I didn't think he had ordered any. For the sake of curiosity, I picked it up and plugged it into a Vox DA-5. Despite the Vox being a teeny tiny little battery-power amp with a 6.5-inch speaker, the TONE of this guitar just blew me away! So I ended up getting one after all. :D

I think that the moment of truth for a lot of us is when we pick up the instrument and play it.

Flukather new rules you made your point and defended it once...now relax. Im sure youve played one in person

I have the right to defend my opinion how many times I wish to do so. Somebody commented my opinion and I have right to continue the discussion with that poster. I have not been said anything that is angry, or attacked anything or anyone. I have expressed my opinions in a calm and simply way.

Being told to relax without any reason what so ever is IMHO patronizing and on the werge of offensive. I don't need to like everything EB puts out. It's like saying just because I like an old Marshall plexi I need to like their DSL amplifier. Besides, it's not even going as deep as that.

I commented on the estheticsof the guitar, and that is an extremly subjective issue, and the original poster asked for the opinions of the members of the forum. I have not said anything about the quality of the guitar, or how it felt or sounded, like some people apperantly have. Whether I have played the guitar or not doesn't matter. It has nothing to do with the original posters question, I haven't made any comment on that.

My 2 cents.

You have the right? Well, to a certain extent, but it's not an absolute.

"It looks cheap" is of course very subjective and, as such, fairly difficult to either expound on or defend. Where can you go from there? "No, it REALLY looks cheap!" Okay. You made your opinion known and no one squashed your basic human rights, but let's - well, not relax, because that's patronizing, so maybe we can just say "remain calm"?

Would that be okay with you?

I don't need to like everything EB puts out.

Of course you don't, but you've just told a group of 20th Silo owners that their guitars look like a cheap, Korean instrument. Good for you. Bad for them!

You've left yourself no wiggle room.

My 2 cents.

Yep, and we all know what two cents will get you in today's world.

Now let's move on. Really.

NO way did I mean to offend you. We are trying with this forum to keep it open and keep it real. It is a work in progress. In months and years past threads like this would have blown up already. The point of the thread is strange at best but so be it.

having moderated for a few years and trying to figure out how to avoid train wrecks I am trying to keep things from going crazy. When loooking back at posts that have gone wrong it is usually becdause a couple of people feel so strongly about a topic that they will not rest until the other one agrees with them. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED.
SO to try to keep the ideas fresh and not go crazy we are now going to try a concept that goes like this:

1. State your opinion

2. Defend your position

3.Agree to disagree and move on

THis is what Im saying to you. We know you dont like it.....You have told us twice. WE have no problems with you not liking it. But I guarantee that this thread will end up a flame fest if there arent some controls.

Please give me your suggestion how we should do it...Im all ears.

I want an open forum but unfortunately there have to be some guidelines.....

once aagian I did not neam to offend you.

I find that many of the things I end up loving I wasn't crazy about at first; maybe that says something about me. From clothes to art to music to guitars, the things I end up loving deeply take a while to grow on me.

We don't just buy guitars for the look. There's a balance between look, feel and tone. I've played a lot of great looking guitars that sounded awful. And vice versa. I'm sure there are guys that don't like the look or the feel of the 20th, Albert, Petrucci, Luke, Morse, etc. Great. Choices are good and you can choose anything you want. I remember the comments about the Petrucci BFR before it came out- there were a lot of passionate responses about the look. Flash forward a few months ... now there's a huge line to buy these babies.

I love the look of the 20th. I liked it at first (like not love), but I have grown to really love the nuances of the design which I didn't see at first like the pickup rings and the binding. Same thing goes for the Albert lee.

All I'm saying is imagine the amount of time spent developing and manufacturing these guitars - no easy feat - and then maybe consider giving them a chance to grow on you (or play one) before writing them off.

Frankly, I'm not much of a fan of figured tops (somehow they seem too "pretty" for rock'n'roll) and as such prefer the aesthetics of the regular Silo to the 20th. However, having played a 20th I have to say that it is the best sounding electric guitar I've ever heard - I was simply blown away by that maple necked guitar and would sell my first born for a 7-string with that tone.

Cheers

i remember when i first laid my hands on my 20th silo, I opened the case then unwrapped it from the plastic, the awesome new ball smell was heavenly ( you know what i mean!!), it looked beautiful, I just played a few simple things, ran my hands up and down the neck, it was orgasmic stuff folks, i was in heaven. i didnt even plug it in for about 40 mins! I just sat there fondling it, totally amazed. I definitely prefer simple looking guitars too, but this one is a stunner.

I remember when the 20th first came out, I thought that they were nice, but they really didn't do anything for me. I did inquire thru Pete how much for one, just out of curiousity, as always Pete was most helpful.

I saw some great looking guitars as people got them and posted their pictures. Like a few others that have posted here, I prefer painted guitars. But then I went to the Dallas bash and messed with a 20th at GC and I really liked the feel.

Then I was surfing the forum and someone posted this:

It was everything I wanted if I were to order a 20th. So I bought it!! When I opened the box it was like OMG this is the best EBMM I'd ever played!!!!

Again I'm not one that's into figured tops, but there is something very special about the 20th's. They aren't for everybody, but for those that are into them they are awesome. I'd like to score a rosewood neck one someday.

I'm glad to see at least a little posting on this board that isn't all "super-happy-beautiful-perfect", but I always have to laugh when I hear someone say that it's their "right" to post their opinion on an internet message board.

Uh, no. It's a privledge. If you actually pay money to post on the board, by all means, you should be able to say that the "20th Aniversary Silhouette looks like 20 pounds of fried ****". Last time I checked, nobody here paid to post.

BTW, I think the 20th is sexy as hell. Now as for the BFRs...

Sorry for my potty mouth.

See what i did there?
