i would think if you're gonna have the strings off for an extended period of time you would need to loosen the truss rod. it's tightened to counteract with the strings. with no strings its just bending the neck for no reason.

Another good point midopa, if I was to leave the neck separated from the body for shipping or else, then you make a vaild point of releasing tension from the trussrod. Well said.

I know threads morph in all sorts of directions, but I think The Grand Wazoo's initial advice was simple and good. Just let the bass settle a bit in your environment before you start yanking away at truss rods and saddle heights.

It is a wooden instrument after all. Anybody ever install hardwood floors? you need to let it settle first. I know someone who didn't...and paid dearly for that mistake. A couple grand of of hardwood flooring needed to ripped out.

Yes, and that is a good advise.
Let the wood settle in.

Well after my initial post, I have googled other sources, in order to find some professional tips, and I have found a link with a lot of information on general bass maintenance and setup, this has nothing to do with getting a brand new bass "climatized" but it gives you a lot of tips on how to set up intonation, neck relief, pickup heigth etc etc.
And it does mention MusicMan basses too so it's not totally off topic or offensive to this board.

Bear in mind I never heard of this guy before in my life and from what I can make of it, I believe he is either a luthier or boutique bass builder of some sort, anyway it doesn't matter as he is not advertizing any competitior manufacturer.
What he does give in details is quite interesting, here is the link: http://www.jerzydrozdbasses.com/akcndfr54jdhrei567/Ultimate_Guide_ver100.pdf

a. you don't need to remove the strings to recondition a fretboard.

b. it'd be an awful shame to ruin a perfectly fine set of strings in not being careful while unnecessarily removing them.

the just saying,

PS: conditioning the fretboard does just that. Not the entire neck.

I posted that link on another forum some weeks ago. Jerzy Drozd is a fine luthier based in Spain.

GW, very nice to share those tips & tricks for new EBMM bass owners!

I agree with most of it! ;)

I also didn't touch anything until 1st strings change.
When 1st time restrung my bass I just slightly tense truss rod and tune up octaves with adjusting each string saddle with appropriate screws on the bottom of the bridge! :)

P.S. ...one Question for You:

What's the weight balance of Your beautiful 25th hanging on the strap over shoulder?
For example, my Sterling 5 don't have perfect balance, 'cause weight of 5 banger neck and head stock with 5 string tuners always have overbalance on the neck side instead of body, so time after time I must pull it back in my personal play position!
That's sometimes frustrating when playing a long gigs and at times disturb my focus of playing! :(

Well I am one of those players who have their strap quite up and I keep my bass quite high almost on my chest, I find it no different than the bongo in terms of balance, so I am happy that I can comfortably play it my way.

I've also said in another thread that one of the cool things about the shape of the 25th body is that with the lack of a protruding upper horn you can comfortably play this bass laying down on a recliner chair without the top horn digging into your chest, of course no one plays like that in a band situation, but when I am at home, I do like to slouch on my sofa and play with the bass on my belly, very comfy! ;)

Playing sitting down it's a dream it sits perfectly on my leg and doesn't dive forward no back. It's perfect.
